Significance of Research Writing in 2018

Research means to investigate systematically. In other words, research is the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. It involves studying different Research Topics and trying to discover facts about it. This involves collection of information about a particular research topic. It is the revision of accepted theories or laws in light of new facts, or practical application of new or revised theories or laws.

Research is conducted on the research topic to solve important matters or some problem in question. It enhances our logical thinking and critical thinking abilities. It increases knowledge extensively on the subject. Research is important for students and academicians as well as for professionals, to logically and critically evaluate the problem at hand and reach the conclusion. It implies understanding of the various issues. It also serves as an aide to project/business success.

Research is a scholarly pursuit of new knowledge, discover or creative activity in an area with the goal of advancing that area’s boundaries. It brings to life what is in the textbooks. It brings new information and facts about the research topic selected. Research studies are important because they contribute to knowledge and progress about the different research topic selected to review and research. It answers the questions about the real life world problems in terms of solution to the issues.

Aim /Purpose of the Research:

The ultimate aim of research is to generate measurable and testable data, gradually adding to the accumulation of human knowledge. It aims to produce new knowledge and deepen understanding of the topic or issue.

1) Exploration: It involves gaining familiarity with the topic, discovering new facts and dimensions through examination of the subject. Exploratory research involves research conducted for the problem that has not been studied more clearly, establishes priorities. It helps determine the best research design, data collection method and selection of subjects. It is used when a topic or issue is new and data is difficult to collect. Its objective is to gather preliminary information that will help define problem and suggest hypothesis.

2) Description: The research has the purpose of description. The main goal of this type of research is to describe the data and characteristics about what is being studied. The data collection allows for gathering in-depth information that may be either quantitative or qualitative.

3) Explanation: Research often aims for an explanation. Explanation is the way to uncover new knowledge, and to report the relationship among different aspects of the phenomena. Explanation has varied explanatory power.

Steps of the Research Topic writing process

Research involves a systematic process that focuses on accumulation of information and the presentation of new facts about the research topic selected. The following eight steps outline the simple and effective strategy to accumulate all necessary information a research paper needs to finally reach for a solution.

The following steps can be rearranged depending on the information available and familiarity of the subject topic. The steps are explained as following:

1) Problem Identification

The first step of the process is the identification of the problem; develop a research question that is to be dealt with. The research question can be anything depending on the topic or problem you are facing or any fact/issue that you want to research. Like obesity which is a focus of concern in society. This serves as the focus of the study.

2) Literature Review

Now that the problem has been identified, the researcher must collect all necessary information and knowledge about the topic. The researcher must then review all necessary literature of the topic chosen, which later helps the researcher to reach a conclusion. The study being carried out is documented in a way for future use by any individual.

3) Clarify the problem

It happens many times that the problem identified in the first step is too broad in its scope. In order to narrow down the problem, the researcher clarifies the problem after the literature review. The knowledge gained by literature review helps the researcher to narrow down the problem so as to concentrate on a particular focus issue.

4) Clearly define Terms and Concepts

Terms and concepts are the words and phrases to be used in the study. These need to clearly define as they apply to the study to minimize confusion. The researcher must specifically define them to make the concept more approachable and easier to understand for the reader.

5) Define Population

Research projects can focus on a specific group of people who the researcher wants to direct attention so as to narrow down the focus of the particular study. This in turn helps the researcher to make the study more manageable in terms of time and resources.

6) Develop Instrumentation Plan

The study plan is referred to as the instrumentation plan. The instrumentation plan serves as the entire road map for the plan, answering the “How”, “When” and ”Where” of the problem under focus. This plan consists of numerous decisions and considerations that are kept during the entire study plan.

7) Collect Data

Once ready with the instrumentation plan, the actual study begins with the collection of data. The collection of data is an important step that acquires all necessary information required for the solution of the problem in question.

8) Analyze Data

All the resources including the time and effort dedicated through steps 1 to 7 of the research process culminate in this final step. The researcher is ready to analyze the collected data for the research question to be answered. The researcher can analyze the data depending upon the plan.

Research helps in development of the community, it helps in finding answers to the things that are unknown, filling the gaps between the knowledge and changing the traditional way of doing things. It helps to bring improvement in various fields. Research serves to introduce new ideas, help people identify problems and discover appropriate solutions for a new way. This in turn helps in both community development and nation development. Research plays a vital role in the success of developed countries.
