Elon Musk roasts FAA while revealing SpaceX Starship static fire success
Elon Musk is going no-holds-barred against the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), roasting them for the ongoing regulatory delays preventing SpaceX’s Starship from going on its fifth test flight.
Musk also showed off the sixth Starship static fire, which took place today, in preparation for what will eventually be the next iteration in the ongoing tests of the rocket that will travel to Mars in 2026 if all goes according to plan.
The FAA and SpaceX are already in the middle of a strange debacle that will likely end up in the company suing the federal agency. SpaceX revealed a few weeks ago in a blog post that Starship has been ready for Integrated Flight Test (IFT-5) since early August, but the FAA has given them an estimated launch date of November.

After SpaceX’s lengthy blog post, which pushed for a more streamlined launch approval process, the FAA fined SpaceX for three violations over two different launches that occurred during the Summer of 2023.
When the FAA’s fines were revealed, CEO Elon Musk said the company would be suing the agency for “regulatory overreach.”
Things continued when today, SpaceX wrote a lengthy letter to the FAA, claiming the fines were retaliation for criticism related to the delayed approval process and firing back at the fines, breaking down why they are unreasonable and hoping the agency will develop a faster regulatory process.
Musk took to X for more scrutiny involving the FAA as SpaceX performed its static fire test of Starship’s sixth rocket:

It is the latest barb in what will hopefully result in a better launch approval process for SpaceX and space exploration companies as a whole. SpaceX went into detail on why the FAA’s slow processes are not advantageous for the development of spaceflight in its letter sent to the agency today.
