President Ramaphosa Invites Musk to Invest in SA: ‘Come home’
Elon Musk recently met with South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa in the United States. According to South Africa’s United Nations Bureau Chief Sherwin Bryce-Pease, Musk and President Ramaphosa talked about potential investments in South Africa.
“I have had discussions with him and have said, Elon, you become so successful and you’re investing in a variety of countries, I want you to come home and invest here. He and I are going to have further discussion,” President Ramaphosa told reporters last week.
While visiting New York to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, President Ramaphosa met with Elon Musk to further discuss potential investments in South Africa. As the head of many successful companies, discussions with Musk hold significant potential for innovation in South Africa.

For now, South Africa is primarily interested in Starlink, as it would provide internet connectivity to many rural and underserved areas. Local reports suggest that President Ramaphosa might also be interested in welcoming investments from Tesla.
However, Starlink might be the most beneficial to South Africa at the moment. Elon Musk has already stated that SpaceX is awaiting regulatory approval in South Africa to launch Starlink internet services.
Starlink already offers internet services in several African countries, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Kenya.
