They don’t want to report on the latest attempt on Donald Trump’s life, because it will generate sympathy for Trump and outrage against the tactics of his opponents, as well as remind people of Trump’s heroic behavior under fire. But they can’t keep people from knowing about it. So they spin as best they can before moving on as quickly as possible.
Here the odious Lester Holt reminds the ideologically obedient that Trump brought it on himself by disapproving of illegally imported Haitian welfare colonists eating people’s pets:
