SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WSYX) — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said there have been 33 bomb threats in recent days related to rising tensions over immigrants in Springfield, and each one has turned out to be a hoax.
“None of these had any validity at all,” DeWine said during a news conference in Springfield on Monday afternoon.
Springfield has been the subject of heavy scrutiny since former President Donald Trump repeated during last week’s nationally-televised debate with Kamala Harris the unproven claim that Haitian immigrants there are stealing and eating residents’ pets.
“We’ve moved resources into Springfield,” the governor said. “People have the right to feel safe.”
Springfield City Hall was forced to evacuate on Thursday because of a bomb threat, two schools were evacuated there Friday, two hospitals were locked down Saturday because of bomb threats and two more schools were evacuated Monday.
