Caitlin Clark hit with technical foul after heated incident in Fever game

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22)

Caitlin Clark was back on the court for the Indiana Fever after a one-game injury absence. The two-time All-Star was a late scratch for Wednesday’s matchup against the Portland Fire due to a back injury. It was a minor issue for Clark, who returned to action for Friday’s home game against the Golden State Valkyries.

Clark picked up right where she left off. In fact, with the level of intensity she brought to the game, it seemed like the 6-foot guard was looking to make up for lost time.

Tempers flared right before halftime after Clark was involved in a heated exchange with Valkyries forward Janelle Salaun.

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark’s altercation with Janelle Salaun

Clark took a swipe at the ball after Salaun secured a defensive rebound right as the halftime buzzer sounded. Salaun did not appreciate the gesture, and she decided to extend her elbow towards Clark’s chest. It prompted a face-to-face confrontation between the two players.

Things got so heated that players and coaches from both teams had to get involved to separate the two. In the video below, Clark is seen being dragged away from the commotion by teammate Sophie Cunningham. Cooler heads eventually prevailed, but both Clark and Salaun both received technical fouls for the extracurricular activity.

This is Clark’s second technical foul of the season. Her first one came on May 13 against the Los Angeles Sparks for excessive complaining towards a game official.

Per WNBA rules, eight technical fouls in one season will lead to an automatic one-game suspension. For context, Clark received two techs in 13 games last season.

It’s a close game in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. As of writing, the Fever are up, 80-72, with 4:02 left in the game.
