Chicago White Sox receive dire trade deadline prediction from MLB analyst
The Chicago White Sox looked like they were about to fall back to .500 as their offense sputtered for most of the night on Tuesday. However, they fought back in the ninth inning and defeated the Seattle Mariners by the score of 2-1.
Chicago’s comeback win improved their record to 25-23 on the season. They remain just two games back of first place in the American League Central Division and are competing for one of the AL’s wild card spots.
There are, though, 114 games remaining in their season and a lot can happen between now and October. Unfortunately, many are not buying the White Sox as season-long contenders.
MLB analyst predicts the Chicago White Sox will be sellers at the trade deadline
Recently, Jim Bowden of The Athletic ranked the performance of each MLB team so far this season. Since there were few people who thought the White Sox would be any good this year, they earned the 10th spot on his list.
However, he also predicted what each MLB team would do at the deadline, and he wrote that Chicago would be sellers because he does not believe they will be able to maintain this level of play:
“The White Sox season has been highlighted by the offensive production from the trio of Munetaka Murakami, Colson Montgomery and Miguel Vargas. Murakami has been everything the White Sox hoped he’d be from a power and on-base perspective, while Montgomery continues to hit for power and Vargas is off to the best start of his career.
“On the pitching side, Davis Martin leads a rotation that has also been boosted by solid showings from veterans Sean Burke and Erick Fedde.
“Trade deadline position: Sellers. Chicago is making progress but still has a ways to go and won’t be able to stay at .500. Continuing their long-term building is the best play for them this season.”
The problem, of course, is that many of the players that other teams would want from Chicago at the deadline are also players the organization would like to keep around.
Chief among these is slugging first baseman Munetaka Murakami, who leads the American League with 17 home runs. Hopefully Chicago can continue to prove the doubters wrong and be buyers instead of sellers come the deadline.
