OTL: A Leader Emerges at Center?
With voluntary OTAs well underway, all eyes are on HC Jesse Minter’s approach to practices.

That is, after it’s determined whether QB Lamar Jackson is in attendance:
Counted 11 Ravens missing for Day 2 of OTAs:
Lamar Jackson
Nnamdi Madubuike (neck)
Teddye Buchanan (knee)
Kyle Hamilton
Marlon Humphrey
Travis Jones
Rashod Bateman
Calais Campbell
Adisa Isaac
Chidobe Awuzie
John Jenkins

It’s go time! The guys are on the field. No sign of Lamar but a good amount of vets are here. I see Stanley, Flowers, Hendrickson, Roquan and Andrews. Henry is scheduled to speak after practice so I’m sure he’s here pic.twitter.com/JDrXBkIY3O

Whether you agree with it or not, it does seem that Jackson’s status at voluntary team activities directly influence the media’s idea of his leadership style and success:
Frascella Ranks all 32 NFL Starting QBs based on Leadership:
1. Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes
2. Rams: Matthew Stafford
3. Bills: Josh Allen
4. Seahawks: Sam Darnold
5. 49ers: Brock Purdy
6. Bucs: Baker Mayfield
7. Lions: Jared Goff
8. Broncos: Bo Nix
9. Patriots: Drake Maye

I understand Jackson’s lack of postseason success having some level of impact on his ranking here, but having him below the likes of Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and others is downright ridiculous. That’s especially true when those associated with Jackson continue to sing his praises:
Jesse Minter said he expects Lamar Jackson to be back for OTAs “soon.”
He called him a leader of the team’s offseason program and said the communication has been great. pic.twitter.com/FKZvdp89w1
— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) May 19, 2026
Minter said that Lamar Jackson has been one of the leaders of the offseason program. Said Jackson has communicated with team that he’ll miss a few days because he has something going on. Expects Jackson to be back in building soon.

And if leadership is a stat measured in wins, what does Baltimore’s over/under win total for the 2026 campaign indicate?

One way or another, I’m going to refrain from knocking Jackson for a few missed practices in an offseason that’s asked a ton of him. Meanwhile, the leadership I’m more interested in seeing is that I mentioned at the open – Jesse Minter.
With more meaningful practices coming this week, we’re seeing more of Minter than ever and are continuously reminded of what RB Derrick Henry had to say on Tuesday:

— Jamison Hensley (@jamisonhensley) May 19, 2026
Perhaps more important is Minter’s approach to each day. Henry described him as “hungry,” while the biggest moment from Tuesday’s session was the way it ended:
Jesse Minter ended practice with a fun and competitive offense vs. defense medicine ball toss.
Vega Ioane tossed it further than Zion Young, which meant push-ups for the entire defense.

— Ryan Mink (@ryanmink) May 19, 2026
Minter referred to the friendly competition as the ‘at our best when our best is needed’ portion of practice, and I – for what it’s worth – love to see it.
Alongside Minter, OL Coach Dwayne Ledford will need to get his unit to their best, with all eyes on the Center position. First and foremost, though many have suggested OG Emery Jones Jr. could be an option, Ledford seemed to indicate otherwise:

Similarly, while others are excited about options like UDFA Nick Dawkins and fan favorite Corey Bullock, it seems newly acquired Danny Pinter leads the charge early. The jury’s still out on whether John Simpson will solve the issue at Guard, but I trust his opinion on his comrade:
John Simpson with some complimentary words about center Danny Pinter, saying his communication has been very good and he’s allowing them to line up quick and play fast.
— Ryan Mink (@ryanmink) May 19, 2026
OL John Simpson said C Danny Pinter is “playing at a level where he can just call it out and we can go.”
— Sam Cohn (@samdcohn) May 19, 2026
You know who I trust even more, though? O-Line guru Cole Jackson:
Danny Pinter out in space.

— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) May 19, 2026
Overall, though, I’m thrilled to have Ledford in the building to coach up Jackson’s hogs up-front. From the jump, we’re already seeing great signs:
If you think I’m going to overreact to the entire Ravens offensive line group doing some positional drills…
…YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!
Dwayne Ledford is bringing physical and technically sound OL play back to Baltimore! https://t.co/kitt4F2naD

Ledford will need to get the big fellas into shape but will also need to find the right alignment with so many new faces in the room. While fans have discussed whether Simpson or rookie Vega Ioane should man the left or right-side Guard spots, Simpson doesn’t seem to care:
John Simpson was asked if he’d be willing move from left to right guard. Both he and rookie Vega Ioane have mostly played on the left in the past:
“At the end of the day, I’m here to win some games. No matter where they put me at, or put him at, my job is to go out there and… pic.twitter.com/LQ7ZL7G4IP
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) May 19, 2026
And again, he seems to be a strong voice in the room, offering guidance for counterpart on how to continue taking the right steps moving forward:
Veteran guard John Simpson’s first impressions of rookie Vega Ioane: “He’s not a real loud, vocal guy yet. I think that will come over time and experience. He sits back and observes everything and soaks it up like a sponge. He’s really intelligent.”

— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) May 19, 2026
If Ledford, Simpson, Pinter and the like are able to improve Baltimore’s presence on the offensive trenches, Jackson will have time to hit two other standout targets from Tuesday:

— Chris Cooper (@ChrisCooper_NFL) May 19, 2026
Maybe the biggest individual takeaway I had from today’s OTAs: Elijah Sarratt looks really good against zone coverage. Finds soft spots, uncovers, makes himself a big target and braces for contact at the catch point. Could be a safety valve/underneath guy to start.
— Nikhil Mehta (@nikknowsball) May 19, 2026
If he can do that better than last year, he and Derrick Henry should have ample space to run, and OC Declan Doyle’s offense should flourish.
