The 2016 Jin Xing Phenomenon Conference in Beijing will announce the making of China’s first transgender film–Half Dream. Set in Beijing in 2000, the story tells about a single mother with a gender nonconforming son fighting verbal and physical abuse, bureaucracy, and institutional obstacles in order for her son to change his sex surgically and legally. Written and directed by Huai Bao, Ph.D., the film will be produced by Beijing Leading Intercontinental Investment and will star Han Yueqiao as the mother.
Born in a high ranking military officer’s family in 1957, Han Yueqiao made her film debut in Love and Legacy by Xi’an Film Studio in 1978. She also appeared in Mainland China’s second 3D film Huan Huan and Xiao Xiao (1981), as well as Mainland China’s second Sci-Fi thriller, The Hidden Shadow (1981)–a story based on the allegation of the ghost apparitions in the Forbidden City.
Han Yueqiao has appeared in over 50 films and TV series. She is currently writing a screenplay based on her recent adventures in Tibet. She is also a photographer and painter.
