Psalm 73:25-26:

While I never had any extravagant riches to speak of in my life, I did have opportunities to live rather well. For some reason, I always chose not to go in those directions.

It just seemed that the people I knew with lots of money were never really happy; and besides, as the Bible tells us, you can’t take it with you.

And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. (Job 1:21)

For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. (Ps 49:17)

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. (1Tim 6:7)

Not to mention, after spending a good portion of my early years under the control of someone, I figured it wouldn’t be any better if I got attached to someone with money.

I even turned down a chance to work in Hollywood; thankfully, God kept me from doing that!

I’m sure Satan would have preferred I had gone the way of Baal. It would have been a feather in his cap and a very difficult temptation for me to turn away from, especially after hearing about all that goes on in Hollywood.

And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. (Judg 2:13)

And he forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD. (2Kgs 21:22)

Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion. (Isa 41:29)

And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. (Jer 1:16)

Now, as a Christian, when I read the Bible and read what Jesus had to say about worldly rich people, I know I made the right decisions (Matt 19:23-24; Mark 10:23-25; Luke 18:23-25).

It was no doubt the Spirit of truth who was leading me all along, showing me the way, even when I didn’t know there was one.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. (Prov 4:27)

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. (Isa 30:21)

As slow as the process was—and still is—the Lord has never given up on me.

As I sit here writing now, I just realized the Bible I acquired from my cousin back in the 1970s sat on my bookshelf for the same amount of time since I entered in at the Strait Gate and started my journey down the Narrow Way!

Twenty-five years on the shelf and another twenty-five years since my search began…wow. No wonder the Lord has been teaching me patience; how much more patient is He, waiting on me.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (Jas 1:4)

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2Pet 3:9)

Of course, to God, a thousand years are but a day in His sight:

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. (Ps 90:4)

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (2Pet 3:8)

With that all being said, there’s nothing I’d rather have than Jesus in my life and in my heart. That’s why I was drawn to this latest song below by Selah, because everything else in this world is vanity and life here is very short.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it. (Job 35:13)

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. (Eccl 1:2)

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. (Eccl 1:14)

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah. (Ps 39:5)

Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. (Ps 144:4)

Praying one day the Lord will have mercy on me and remember me as I continue my walk down the Narrow Way in search of Jesus.
