God’s Divine Agape Love — The Mysterious Love-Type of Christ — Via the Wayfaring Gal

(12/14/2025)

Ephesians 3:16-19:

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (Eph 3:16)

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (Eph 3:17)

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; (Eph 3:18)

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. (Eph 3:19)

Vine’s Expository Dictionary, published in 1940 by the British Bible scholar and theologian W.E. Vine, shows the importance and mysterious nature of God’s divine agape love:

The Greatest Gift Someone Could Give You

But not just given by “anyone”…

According to the Bible, divine agape love is bestowed by God the Father during the act of true rebirth; giving the robes of righteousness of Jesus Christ as a covering…

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (1John 3:1)

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. (Isa 61:3)

And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. (Zech 3:4)

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1Cor 2:9)

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (Rev 3:5)

And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? (Rev 7:13)

I am still in great expectation of the promise of that amazing experience of rebirth, the covenant promise of a new heart:

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Ps 27:14)

And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. (2Thess 3:5)

The new heart covenant brings us into union with Jesus, IF we do what He says; when He will show us His Divine Agape Love, the standard by which we will all be judged.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15)

So that when His divine love is shown to us, we will know it is something we lack; and that we have never, in reality, truly loved at all.

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. (Mark 10:21)

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1John 1:5)

Through their disobedience in the Garden, Adam and Eve lost their Agape Love connection to God, and the “original sin” has been carried through by the seed of the man to all generations afterward; thus, the need for the virgin birth of Jesus.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isa 7:14)

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:35)

Our primary job now ought to be regaining our lost divine love connection to God, and the only way Jesus gave us to do this is by the strait gate/narrow way.

This is what the revelation of Jesus Christ is all about!

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (1Pet 1:13)

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (Isa 61:1)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke 4:18)

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Heb 13:8)

The Book of Hebrews cites the Old Testament in explaining this covenant of a new heart:

Hebrews 8:8-10:

For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: (Heb 8:8)
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. (Heb 8:9)
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: (Heb 8:10)

It truly is all about the need to have our broken hearts fixed and there is only one way given to us by Jesus; but it involves OBEDIENCE, an unwelcome word in today’s church.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of Christians consider “the walk” of the Narrow Way a work or a legalism; or, if not, they consider the narrow way as some kind of “walk of Holiness” that the Christian does after “salvation”.

That’s not what Jesus said…

Mathew 7:13-14:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matt 7:13)
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt 7:14)

Deuteronomy 11:26-28:

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; (Deut 11:26)
A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: (Deut 11:27)
And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. (Deut 11:28)

Matthew 28:19-20:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (Matt 28:19)
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matt 28:20)

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev 3:20)

After becoming a Christian and beginning to understand the concept of what is meant by being “born again“, the Holy Spirit began to show me that there is a difference between CONVERSION and REGENERATION.

CONVERSION is simply a decision WE make with our own conscious mind. It is not salvation.

REGENERATION (being born again/quickened together) is something only God can do to us; and Jesus said it is found at the end of the narrow way walk.

Today’s church has conflated CONVERSION with REGENERATION and the false teachers and preachers tell Christians they are saved when Jesus Himself tells us otherwise.

Prior to my CONVERSION, I knew almost nothing about being a “Christian” or “Christianity”.

As it turned out, this was a blessing!

After speaking with several people who had been “broad way” Christians at the first, it was explained to me how difficult it had been for them to break free from the false salvation doctrines they had been taught previously.

They likened it to having to be deprogrammed.

I believed that there was a God, and that He created everything. I understood Jesus Christ was His Son; that there was a heaven and hell, but nothing much beyond that.

I did not understand anything about salvation or being born again.

Since I had never even read the Bible, I was like a blank slate that God could write on.

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (Matt 18:3)

I learned early-on that I needed to STUDY my Bible diligently; and I needed to study it DAILY; as my top priority over EVERYTHING.

My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? (Ps 42:2)

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matt 6:33)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Tim 2:15)

Isaiah 28:9-10:

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. (Isa 28:9)
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isa 28:10)

So that’s just what I did. And as I started on this journey down the narrow way, after entering in at the strait gate, and turning my back on the world, I found some of the most seemingly-contradictory beliefs imaginable!

And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. (Jer 21:8)

I heard many “Christians” talking about how all you had to do to be saved was to repeat some “prayer” and just “really mean it”!

That’s all!

You are to just “take it by faith” and “believe it is true” and— voila!—Jesus is in your heart!

But that’s not what I was reading in my Bible!

The following verses in First Peter are very interesting. They fit with Jesus’ words that the way of salvation is actually very, very difficult:

1 Peter 1:5-7, 9, 13:

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1Pet 1:5)
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: (1Pet 1:6)
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: (1Pet 1:7)

Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. (1Pet 1:9)

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (1Pet 1:13)

1 Peter 4:12-13:

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: (1Pet 4:12)
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. (1Pet 4:13)

Just those few verses told me that salvation is not easy, nor is it instant; not to mention the promised revelation of Jesus, who is found at the end of the narrow way walk.

How could Jesus come into you, the Creator of everything, and you wouldn’t know it; that you just had to take it by faith?

Even before I got to First Peter, when reading and doing word studies in the Book of Matthew on the strait gate/narrow way, it told me it was a journey, a process; a relatively simple concept, but not at all something easy to accomplish, according to Jesus.

In the Book of Revelation, Jesus gave the last days’ church of Laodicea a final clue and warning!

Revelation 3:17-18:

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: (Rev 3:17)
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. (Rev 3:18)

The strait gate/narrow walk is indeed a journey; think of it as an adventure if you will. It is the only way Jesus gave us for true salvation.

The pathway we choose (the narrow way or the broad way) will determine where we spend eternity.

Will we be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life or be tossed into the Lake of Fire?

Let us choose wisely…

Looking back, my own adventure started when I was quite young. I wanted to be loved more than anything else.

Could this be related to the divine love-disconnect that happened in the Garden? I think so!

I came from a broken family and wanted my Daddy’s love so badly. But Daddy was very strict and I took that to mean he didn’t really care about me.

I got my share of spankings, and of course I didn’t deserve any of them! At least, that was my perspective as a young child.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Prov 22:6)

Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. (Prov 23:13)

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. (Prov 29:15)

And still, I continued looking for “love” in all the wrong places most of my life; not realizing the TYPE of love I needed was missing, and searching in this land wherein there is no water was futile (“water” is often code for God’s divine love in the Bible):

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; (Ps 63:1)

Daddy was a hard working man and didn’t show a lot of affection. He loved me as best he could with that unregenerate heart we all have; unless we have been authentically born again.

Jeremiah 17:9-10:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer 17:9)
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (Jer 17:10)

Once I became an adult, I came to realize how much Daddy did love me and was just trying to raise me up with discipline and morals; while Mama’s love counter-acted that with her leniency.

But it was still all done through the only love-type we have at birth (phileo in the Greek), unless and until God bestows His own love-type upon us (divine agape).

I used to fear my Daddy when I was little. I thought he was “God” and would strike me dead at any given moment if I had misbehaved!

Now I fear God the Father with my new found understanding…

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? (Heb 12:9)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Prov 1:7)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Ps 111:10)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. (Prov 9:10)

Psalm 103:17-18:

But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; (Ps 103:17)
To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. (Ps 103:18)

So as each day goes by, I continue on this journey; the most important adventure of my life, because it is for eternity and not of this world at all.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isa 41:10)

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Matt 24:13)

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13)

A short poem written in the middle-of-the-night:

Patience, Perseverance and God’s Love

Patience said the Lord
Heed what I say
Pick up your own cross
And come follow me each day

Divine Agape Love
Comes only from above
And when it is bestowed
You shall know true love

So enter ye in
At that very strait gate
Best to get going
Before it’s too late

Time has a way
Of flying on by
So be like a child
Asking why Daddy, why?

What does it mean?
And where do I go?
The way that is narrow
Is a hard row to hoe

Never give up
Whatever you do
Otherwise you might hear
“I never knew you”

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. (Isa 30:21)

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. (John 13:34)

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (Phil 1:6)

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised :) (Heb 10:23)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1John 4:18)
