Ongoing Crises: Yemen
Human Wrongs Watch By the International Organization for Migration*
The protracted conflict and economic collapse in Yemen have created one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, affecting over 18 million people.
The IOM response in Yemen focuses on providing shelter, health care, protection and clean water to vulnerable populations. It combines emergency aid with efforts to build resilience and support community-driven recovery.
IOM programmes also address disaster preparedness, protection against gender-based violence and support for local health and sanitation infrastructure.
With nearly 700 staff on the ground, IOM is working closely with local partners to deliver essential services, build community capacity and promote sustainable, locally led recovery efforts.
In 2025, IOM will enhance disaster preparedness and risk reduction through capacity-building initiatives for local authorities, with an emphasis on community participation, especially from marginalized groups, such as women and persons with disabilities.
IOM aims to reduce aid dependency, including by strengthening local health-care systems, supporting migration governance frameworks and fostering durable solutions to displacement.
By following the principle of accountability to affected populations, IOM ensures that community feedback informs programme design and adaptation, which enhances the overall effectiveness of its interventions.
