Epstein files disappeared or got buried shortly after the attacks on Iran and around the time of Trump’s pivot to rearm Ukraine. I’m not sure there is any connection. Neither am I sure there isn’t a connection.
Trump is taking major heat from everyone including his base He also seemingly went scorched earth in the cover up. That makes it less likely he is withholding for purposes of blackmailing his enemies.
My best guess is that Trump was the target of blackmail. His promises to release Epstein files may have been an effort to get in front of the real possibility that his blackmailers would expose him, and to virtue signal without any intention of releasing incriminating evidence against himself. Maybe Trump fell in line, and the blackmail threat has subsided; hence, his dismissal of the whole ugly affair that no longer needs to be controlled and spun.
The agents of blackmail may have been among Trump’s own appointments. Bondi, Patel, and Bogino went scorched earth on dismissing any investigation. This suggests no one else has the capacity to blackmail Trump from this point forward regarding Epstein.
Another possibility is that Trump is actively being blackmailed by interests tied to those who would be incriminated by the release of Epstein files. Bondi, Patel, and Bongino may be circling the wagons around Trump by preventing blowback from the release. If that is the case, then Trump is probably still under someone’s leverage.
One thing seems crystal clear! Trump is somehow threatened by Epstein directly or indirectly. It also seems something had changed. It certainly could have all been an elaborate act to mislead when Trump was so gun ho about releasing the files, but then there was suddenly lots of foot dragging culminating in dismissal and denial. It may be worth looking back to when the foot dragging began. Was the foot dragging a result of something that should have been foreseen by Trump, or was it a complete surprise that caught him off guard?
