The meme that broke the internet started at 2:30 AM in Gary Franchi’s home office. What happened next triggered a political earthquake reaching from Chicago to the White House. In this RAW FEED segment, Gary reveals the story behind “Chipocalypse Now”—the viral image that sent Democrats into meltdown.
It began with a text from friend Daniel asking for an Apocalypse Now-style image of Trump on North Avenue Beach. Gary created the now-infamous image of Trump in aviators and cavalry hat with helicopters over Chicago, added “I love the smell of deportations in the morning,” and posted to X. Within hours, President Trump reposted it. Then the White House official account amplified it. All hell broke loose.
CBS News anchors read the caption like announcing World War III. CNN dragged Mike Quigley on air to analyze it like a coup plot. Fox News flashed it while Tammy Duckworth screamed “stolen valor.” The image appeared on The Five, Gutfeld, Jesse Watters, ABC World News Tonight, even Turkish and Mexican broadcasts.
The political establishment lost it. Governor J.B. Pritzker declared Trump was “threatening to go to war with an American city.” Mayor Brandon Johnson claimed the president wanted to “occupy our city.” Karen Bass called it “disgusting, wrong and illegal.” Gavin Newsom warned against becoming “numb” to troops on U.S. streets.
But they missed the point: The meme was a mirror. As Gary explains, Chicago saw 8 killed last weekend, 7 the week before, 74 wounded. That’s the real apocalypse. While politicians clutch pearls, bodies pile up on Chicago streets.
