QATAR: Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit to Address Israel’s State Terrorism

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Becky Anderson, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani spoke about Israel’s assault in Doha. The Prime Minister expressed how Qatar is enraged by Israel’s attack in Doha, describing the strike as “State terror” and a betrayal. Al-Thani announced that an Arab-Islamic summit is set to take place in Doha soon, where attendees will determine an appropriate course of action, including a significant response aimed at discouraging Israel from persisting in its aggressive “bullying”.

.
Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar has greatly affected the diplomatic dynamics surrounding the Gaza war. The crucial question now is whether this move by Israel halts ceasefire talks or opens up new avenues to change the current circumstances in order to resolve this tragic conflict. Although the Trump administration quickly sought to mitigate the situation by engaging with Qatari leaders, openly challenging the rationale behind Israel’s actions, and reiterating the significance of America’s ties with the Gulf country, the reality is that Qatar has now faced two military assaults, primarily as a result of actions taken by the U.S.

In June, Iran responded to the U.S. military strikes on its nuclear program by firing missiles at Qatar’s al-Udeid Air Base, which is the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East and serves as the main center for American air operations in the area. Israel’s operation “Summit Fire” has eroded  Doha’s confidence in its US partnership, particularly as it occurred during Trump-supported ceasefire talks, and was allegedly relayed to Washington beforehand.

The Israeli press has reported that the choice to target Hamas leaders in Qatar was made some time ago, and according to two Israeli officials who communicated with CNN, the preparations for this “historic operation” spanned two to three months and intensified in the weeks leading up to it. Many security experts are having a hard time believing that the US was left in the dark. Qatar’s interactions with fellow Gulf Cooperation Council members have frequently been strained, especially after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain severed their diplomatic and trade relations with Doha from 2017 to 2021.

However, Israel’s assault in Doha led to a collective outcry from most GCC capitals, which issued seemingly coordinated public statements—particularly since the attack seems to have been executed with at least some prior knowledge from the United States, their too-big-to-fail security partner.

There is a strong possibility that the military collaboration between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United States may be affected, particularly if leaders determine that American resources at al-Udeid Air Base either enabled the attack or intentionally ignored it. The clandestine nature of footage of the assault further reveals the scale of Israeli covert operations in Qatar, prompting inquiries into what additional intelligence efforts may be taking place in Doha. The unified response from the GCC countries indicates a more assertive position regarding Israel’s increasing military actions throughout the Middle East.

The attack on Qatar is perceived not just as an infringement on a member state but also as a direct affront to Gulf solidarity and sovereignty, which are essential to the council’s goal of achieving regional peace and stability. At this pivotal moment, the public sentiment in Gulf nations cannot be overlooked.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Netanyahu is facing political backlash in Israel, with the ongoing “Qatargate” investigation, which looks into the money his aides allegedly received to enhance Doha’s image. It is very possible that Netanyahu had personal motives to target Hamas on Qatari soil, to help silence claims that he is lenient towards Doha. Although it may be simplistic to overlook the possibility that Israel’s attacks could have received implicit approval from the United States, we must recognise the reckless choice made by Israeli leaders. This decision complicates efforts to conclude the Gaza conflict and is undoubtedly damaging America’s standing in the Gulf,  ultimately jeopardising the Abraham Accords.

Israeli airstrikes have now targeted six countries within a mere 72 hours, making it the seventh nation attacked since the beginning of this year. Netanyahu’s ambitious “Greater Israel” Zionist project, backed by ultranationalists, exposes an expansionist agenda that seeks to assert control over the occupied West Bank, Gaza, and portions of Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan. It is high time for the Gulf states to understand that they are undoubtedly next on this list. It’s only a matter of time…

In conclusion, a presidential jet and a large US airbase could not protect Qatar from Israel’s assault. The Arab states would be better off paying attention…

Bernama reports on Qatar’s anticipated response following Israeli strike…

Qatar Preparing Regional Response To Israeli Attack On Doha: Prime Minister

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Wednesday that a collective regional response is being prepared to counter Israel’s attack on Doha, stressing that consultations are underway with Arab and Islamic partners, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported, citing CNN.

“There is a response that will happen from the region. This response is currently under consultation and discussion with other partners in the region,” Al Thani told CNN.

“We are hoping for something meaningful that deters Israel from continuing this bullying,” he said.

Al Thani confirmed that Doha will host an Arab-Islamic summit in the coming days to decide on measures against the Israeli assault, which targeted senior leaders of the Palestinian group Hamas who were meeting to discuss a US ceasefire proposal.

He expressed outrage over the strike, declaring:

“I have no words to express how enraged we are at such an act. This is state terror. We are betrayed.”

He also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of destroying hopes for hostages in the Gaza Strip that are being held by Hamas and obstructing ceasefire efforts.

“I was meeting one of the hostages’ families the morning of the attack,” Al-Thani said. “They are counting on this (ceasefire) mediation. They have no other hope for that.”

“I’ve been rethinking, even about the entire process for the last few weeks, that Netanyahu was just wasting our time. Netanyahu just killed any hope for those hostages… He needs to be brought to justice… He’s breaking every law – he broke every international law,” he said.

The Qatari leader added that his country is reassessing its role in any future Gaza ceasefire talks in light of the strike on its capital. Al Thani did not reveal the fate of Hamas leader and chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, saying: “Until now…there is no official declaration.”

The Palestinian group initially said that five of its members were killed in the strike, but Israel failed to assassinate the negotiating delegation.

“We are trying to identify if there is any other one missing…there are Qataris who are in a very dangerous situation,” he added.

He further highlighted that Netanyahu is leading the Middle East toward chaos, stressing that the entire Gulf region is now at risk. The Israeli airstrike on Doha has drawn a wave of condemnations as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law.

Israel has killed more than 64,600 Palestinians in a brutal offensive in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and pushed the territory’s population into famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
