Google CEO Sundar Pichai warns society to brace for AI acceleration

Google CEO Sundar Pichai admitted Sunday that society will need to prepare for rapid advancements in artificial intelligence that are poised to unsettle the job market and exacerbate safety concerns.

In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” on Sunday night, Pichai called for new regulations to govern AI – even as Elon Musk and others call for an outright pause on the development of advanced AI systems due to safety concerns.

“I think we have to be very thoughtful,” Pichai said. “And I think these are all things society needs to figure out as we move along. It’s not for a company to decide.”

Pichai shocked “60 Minutes” anchor Scott Pelley with a number of bold proclamations about AI’s potential applications – declaring that it would affect “every product across every company” in the near future and even admitting at one point that Google did not fully understand all aspects of its own systems.

Smith-Mundt Modernization Act

The U.S. Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948 (Public Law 80-402), popularly called the Smith–Mundt Act, was first introduced by Congressman Karl E. Mundt (R-SD) in January 1945 in the 79th Congress. It was subsequently passed by the 80th Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on January 27, 1948.

 

The Act was developed to regulate broadcasting of programs for foreign audiences produced under the guidance by the State Department, and it prohibited domestic dissemination of materials produced by such programs as one of its provisions.

 

The original version of the Act was amended by the Smith–Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 which allowed for materials produced by the State Department and the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) to be disseminated (widely spread) within the United States.

UN Report Calls for Legalizing Sex Between Adults and Children

A disturbing new report from the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) adds to growing concerns about global leaders pushing to normalize pedophilia.

The report “The 8 March Principles for a Human Rights-Based Approach to Criminal Law Proscribing Conduct Associated with Sex, Reproduction, Drug Use, HIV, Homelessness and Poverty” on the UNAIDS website offers legal guidance on issues related to sex, including involving children under age 18.

Without any discussion about what the age of consent should be, the report suggests minors can consent to having sex with an adult.

“Sexual conduct involving persons below the domestically prescribed minimum age of consent to sex may be consensual in fact, if not in law,” the report states.
