Professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan — who made a surprise appearance at last year’s Republican National Convention (RNC) in support of President Trump’s White House bid — has died at 71.
Hogan, who was born Terry Bollea, died Thursday in Florida, as first reported by TMZ.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” the organization said in a post on social media. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Representatives for Hogan didn’t immediately return ITK’s request for comment.
With his signature platinum-blond mustache, bold-colored bandanas and “Hulkamania” shirts, the pro wrestler rose to international superstardom in the 1980s.
Hogan energized the crowd at last year’s RNC in Milwaukee, dramatically ripping off his shirt as he praised Trump’s presidential bid.
“When [Trump’s] back in the White House, America’s gonna start winning again,” Hogan exclaimed.
