Under the President’s leadership, the Salute to America 250 Task Force (“Task Force 250”) is executing a full year of festivities, which began on Memorial Day, 2025, and will continue through the end of 2026.

The White House is engaging all levels of government, the private sector, non-profit and educational institutions, and every citizen across the country to celebrate this historic milestone. To achieve this ambitious vision, we have created a new public-private partnership called Freedom 250.

Task Force 250 aims to inspire a renewed love for American history, encourage citizens to experience the beauty of our country, ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation to help our nation succeed for the next 250 years, and invite Americans to pray for our country and our people and rededicate ourselves as One Nation Under God.

Tanks, armored personnel carriers, and howitzers will roll through the streets of Washington, DC, on Saturday—coming to a halt just steps from where President Donald Trump once exhorted his supporters to “fight like hell” and march on the US Capitol. But the president’s grand military parade has something else in common with the “election integrity” rally that preceded the January 6 insurrection: It’s being organized by some of the same political operatives.

The permit application for the parade—which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the US Army and, conveniently, coincides with Trump’s own birthday—lists former Trump aide Megan Powers as a point of contact. Powers, the document says, is a general contractor for America250.org Inc., the nonprofit helping

The America250 Task Force typically refers to the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday (also branded as Freedom 250 or Task Force 250), a public–private partnership established by Executive Order 14189 on January 29, 2025, by President Donald Trump to plan and execute celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American Independence on July 4, 2026.  It is distinct from the congressionally authorized, non-partisan United States Semiquincentennial Commission (branded as America250), which was created in 2016; in 2025, the Trump administration directed federal agencies to prioritize Freedom 250 branding and diverted millions in funding from the congressional commission to the White House task force. 

Key aspects of Task Force 250/Freedom 250:

• Leadership & Structure: Chaired by the President with the Vice President as Vice Chair, it includes cabinet secretaries and is operationally supported by a new LLC housed within the National Park Foundation; businessman Keith J. Krach serves as CEO of Freedom 250. 

• Funding Controversy: The entity has faced criticism and a congressional probe for offering donors VIP access, private receptions with the President, and speaking roles in exchange for contributions ranging from $500,000 to $2.5 million, while also receiving over $68 million from the Department of the Interior as of April 2026. 

• Proposed Events: Plans include the “Great American State Fair” in Iowa, “Patriot Games” for high school athletes, a National Garden of American Heroes, and an Indy car race, though a planned concert series on the National Mall was cancelled in June 2026 after most artists withdrew. 

• Political Criticism: Democrats and historians have accused the task force of politicizing the semiquincentennial, overshadowing the non-partisan America250 commission, and utilizing opaque corporate structures to mix public funds with private donations. 

Separate America 250 task forces also exist at state and organizational levels, such as the Society of American Archivists’ America250 Task Force (focused on archival exhibits) and Iowa’s Governor’s Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday (established November 2025 to coordinate state-level events).
