Naboth, Ahab and Lessons of the Elite
Theology and Politics from a Conservative, Biblical Perspective
I’ve written about Naboth before and referred to him again in a recent post. In 1 Kings 21, we learn the tragic situation of how a Technocrat – King Ahab – wanted something Naboth had and though initially denied, managed to obtain it anyway through murder. But King Ahab shed not a tear for Naboth’s death. Instead, like a little child, Ahab gloried in the fact that he had managed to gain ownership of Naboth’s family vineyard by getting rid of the owner.
The biblical text tells us that it was actually Ahab’s wife Jezebel who did the heavy lifting using the Mosaic Law against Naboth. She did so by hiring worthless men to make false accusations against Naboth at a banquet supposedly in his honor (1 Kings 21:8ff). Accordingly, because of the accusations of the two witnesses, Naboth was taken outside and stoned to death (v13). It’s the same type of thing that occurs today. Money can purchase people’s allegiance to lie and even murder.
The story of Naboth bothers me every time I read or think about it. Here was an average Jewish man, minding his own business, enjoying the vineyard that had been in his family for some time and would ostensibly be passed down to his heirs as well. Yet, he had the misfortune of living too near King Ahab’s palace and Ahab began to lust after that vineyard. It was perfect for him, which made the vineyard almost appeared to be an extension of the palatial grounds. Why shouldn’t Ahab have it? He wanted it!
Ahab offered Naboth a reasonable sum of money for the vineyard, but Naboth declined. He stood behind the legitimate reason of “this land was given to my family years ago in the dividing of the land and it is my inheritance to give to my sons.”
So, Ahab was denied. He then went home sulking and laid on his bed muttering about how unfair life was to him and that he deserved so much more. In the midst of this self-pity party, in walks evil wife Jezebel. She asked why he was so glum and torn up inside.
After learning of Ahab’s problem, Jezebel decided to take care of it. The ultimate outcome is succinctly stated in her words, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead” (v14). This is the way of the rich and powerful; people who have most of the money and power in the world and literally believe they are above the law; that nothing can touch them. They’re also not happy with what they have, but always want more.
We see this play out in numerous ways today. Whether it’s Joe Biden providing a blanket pardon for son Hunter or the White House “considering” blanket pardons for Anthony Fauci, Liz Cheney and Adam Schiff, it all comes down to being above the law. Enough is never really enough.
These potential pardons would be “preemptive pardons” to avoid being targeted by President Trump, apparently. In Cheney’s case, there are allegations that she and others on that subcommittee destroyed evidence that would have exonerated J6 people. Adam Schiff has been censored for his constant lies about Russia influencing the 2016 election.
In Fauci’s case, with what continues to be released by another congressional subcommittee, we’ve learned that most of what Fauci dictated to the American people (masks, lock-downs, school shutdowns, social distancing, etc.), was not at all based on science and had completely negative effects.
The recent congressional subcommittee’s report indicates the “operation warp speed” jab was generally successful. The actual truth though, according to too many doctors to list here, is that the jab has been profoundly detrimental to people’s health and we will likely see a continued increase in sudden deaths, strokes, turbo cancers moving forward.
Some are reporting that up to 20 million people are now dead from the jab (with 2.2 billion injured).[1] If true, that is astounding, however, it’s merely a drop in the bucket to the elite who want the world’s population reduced down to about 500 million from recent 8 billion. Considering that 100 million deaths would be equal to 0.1 billion and 1000 million deaths would equal 1 billion, the elite have quite a bit to go before they reach their goals.
But again, this is the way globalists play their game. They go to bat for their own interests and for people who do their bidding. I can see all of this and more seriously heating up over the next few months not only leading up to Trump’s inauguration, but well after it (should he physically survive).
In fact, the irrepressibly ludicrous Dr. Peter Hotez recently announced that a number of new pandemics are coming to the fore with an apparent start date of January 21, 2024.[2][3] That’s just one day after Trump is inaugurated. How on earth would Hotez or anyone else know about any potential pandemic coming along and the exact day that it might start? Seems he’s subbing in for Fauci who essentially announced the same thing during Trump’s first term by declaring the then upcoming pandemic C-V pandemic.
Certainly, while the level of evil at work throughout society today can be maddening, what is also very interesting is how Donald J. Trump is handling himself now. He’s no longer the novice in DC with wide-eyed naivete, yet it’s still, to me, a mixed bag as we consider the names of the people he’s been tapping for positions in his administration. Some of the names cause us to scratch our heads.
In some ways, he plays tough, the way he has recently dealt with both the President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada. He has talked with both and has clearly indicated that a 25% tariff will be added to any products coming from those countries into America if those two leaders do not tighten up the border situations. Almost immediately, Mexico disbanded several large caravans of people trying to make their way into the USA. Canada has also been seen adding more security to their border with America. In other ways, like with Ukraine’s comedy/actor-turned-politician Zelenskyy, there is pushback against Trump who wants a ceasefire in that way. Zelenskyy appears opposed to it.
Trump is also experiencing a good deal of pushback by some in Congress who don’t want Hegseth or Patel or others to be approved. Because of that, Hegseth is now being accused of sexual assault and being an alcoholic. It’s always the same playbook. Clarence Thomas was accused of sexual impropriety. Brett Kavanaugh was also accused of it. Trump was accused of it and lost in court because the judge would not allow certain information even though Trump’s accuser had no facts, no evidence, nothing.
We need to expect things to seriously heat up. It’s not going to be smooth sailing. However, Trump appears to be going on the offense and seems up for the fight. We’ll see what he does with the border, birthright citizenship and other things he’s made promises on.
Things are dramatically – and I mean dramatically – increasing to overwhelm society. I’m not trying to pin the tail on the date donkey about anything nor am I trying to scare people. I’m simply saying things are moving so fast that it has become way too difficult to keep track of everything. My inbox fills up daily with one news article after another regarding how quickly things are changing. All of these are portents of what the world is becoming and from that, there may be no reverse.
My only suggestion to everyone is to do what you can to enjoy family, friends and gatherings of like-minded people. Enjoy your pets. Take walks in the country if you can. Explore God’s Creation. Immerse yourself in His Word. All of these things will act as a respite, taking your mind off the constant problems created by Satan and his human cohorts.
At the same time, I believe it is extremely important to become people of prayer if you’re not already. Take everything to Him. The other thing each person can do is prepare to some extent.
I’ve realized that though my wife and I cannot prepare for every possible scenario, there are things we have done to make our life easier. We have stocked up on food items and we have a good backup generator. We’ve done these things not out of fear but simply in preparation so that things are a bit easier for us if the bottom does fall out. If it does not fall out, we are no worse off.
I am of the opinion that not long after Trump is inaugurated, things will go south and he will be blamed for it. In that case, we have a bit of a buffer in place. We’re not hard-core preppers by any stretch, but if the Boy Scouts taught me anything, it taught me to be prepared. That is biblical as well. You cannot trust the ultra-rich who want to control us.
All this brings me back around to Naboth. I wonder about him. Was he a man of prayer? Was he a faithful servant of the LORD, who sought Him daily? We seem to know so little about him and his faith (if he exercised it), in the LORD. There is no mention that Naboth prayed to God after his first meeting with Ahab. He may have prayed, but we are not told. I wonder if that had been part of the scenario, would prayer have made a difference for Naboth? Would God then have stepped into directly protect Naboth from being murdered? Potentially, was a lack of prayer on Naboth’s part a reason for the lack of God’s protection? Again, I really don’t know. I’m simply wondering aloud if a different outcome might have occurred had Naboth prayed. I think it’s a legitimate question based on how God responded to many others who faced horrible situations and were saved out of them because of their prayers.
If some technocrat came to me and offered me X amount of dollars for my home and land and I refused, I’d be concerned about what might happen after that. There are too many ways for a rich person to ruin a person of average means. If I was then invited to some banquet in my honor, I’d avoid it like the plague.
1 Kings 21 does not really tell us that much about Naboth except that he owned a vineyard and lived near King Ahab’s palace in Jezreel, the capital city of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. That’s all we know. Was he a man of prayer? Was he a true believer in Jehovah? What was his life like? The Bible does not tell us.
I said in my last article that this life will end for our physical bodies, but our life actually continues into eternity. Christians’ lives never truly end. We simply change into a better version, the version that God originally intended us to be.
Whether Naboth was a man of prayer or not and whether or not his prayers might have changed anything is a moot point, but I like to ask questions even if answers aren’t necessarily forthcoming. I enjoy speculating because it tends to flesh things out for me. It’s part of my puzzle-building logical approach to life itself.
In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul outlines the way believers should approach life. Essentially, we should be aware of things and not sleepwalk through life (v6). We should rejoice in every situation (v16) and pray without ceasing (v17). We should study God’s Word and listen carefully to biblical exposition (“prophesy,” v20). In doing these things, God will guide us through the minefield of daily life and coming days. He will give us wisdom and discernment, allowing us to make good decisions that glorify Him and bring blessing on us.
We should all be people of prayer, bringing everything boldly before our God. He has a response. He has a plan. His will He will reveal to us. This doesn’t mean we will never experience hardship. It simply means that being people of prayer will provide us the strength to persevere in His will regardless of the cost.
In spite of all we face today, it is no reason to throw in the towel or to start to thinking God doesn’t care. It is every reason to believe that God wants us to seek Him even more thoroughly than we are used to doing solely because of the times in which we live.
