Kill Creatures is Young Adult Thriller but I’m here to tell you it was an awesome novel for this adult. This is a thriller that will grip you from the first to the last page and not let go. I couldn’t put this one down and listened to it in a day. This is a story of secrets, betrayals, and revenge.
The story focuses on seventeen year old Nan who lost her three best friends. They went on a boat ride to Devil’s Eye Canyon but only Nan comes back. The other three are never found. A year later at a vigil held for the girls they learn that one of the missing girls, Luce, is alive. Nan is beyond shocked. This can’t be possible because Nan herself was responsible for the girl’s deaths.
From the beginning we know that Nan killed her three best friends. She admits it but as the story unfolds things just don’t seem right. Even more Nan comes across as being really off and often delusional in her thoughts. You find yourself questioning if any of this happened as Nan thinks it did. As the suspense builds we are taken to that fateful night and learn that things may not be what Nan thought they were but much more sinister. The twists and turns that led to the conclusion of this story shocked me. I had not expected any of it but it was so good.
I listened to the audiobook which is read by Valerie Rose Lohman and she does such an amazing job. You could feel the creepiness and suspense of the story at every moment and she brought the characters to life for me. I felt as though I was there experiencing the horror of what had actually happened. So well done!
As I said it is a YA thriller but don’t let that deter you from reading or listening to it as an adult. If you like thrillers, mystery, or suspense grab yourself a copy of this one. I’m sure you’ll find yourself hooked in the first few pages as I was. I can’t wait to read more from Rory Power. I loved this one!
