Dawn's Blackheart
Ever since their stint on Diddy’s “Making The Band”, Danity Kane has suffered their share of in fighting with each other. That pressure eventually saw them lose one of their most vibrant members, D Woods. This left them with 4 ladies standing. Meanwhile, Dawn became a member of Diddy’s group, Dirty Money, and even released some solo music. But she didn’t forget about Danity Kane. By the time that move was made though, Aundrea announced she was leaving the group. This left Dawn, Aubrey (the group’s resident firecracker) and Shannon. They continued as DK3, until Aubrey and Dawn had a fight in the studio. Shannon took that as a chance to exit stage left and hinted at possible ill feelings she’s had for Dawn before the fight. Now that the group’s reunion has fizzled, Dawn shows no signs of slowing down on her sophomore solo album. By the sounds of it, she doesn’t really need them.
Blackheart is quirky. It’s edgy. It’s sexy. It travels down streets that Danity Kane never did because they stuck to a formula that was bubble gum pop sprinkled with a few soulful elements here and there. I always thought Dawn was the most talented member of the group and she shows and proves it here. “I thought I lost it all…” she sings boldly on “Noir”, the album’s dramatic intro.
