Is the Current Israel-Iran War Foretold in the King James Bible? The Bible and the News are Becoming One.

In the past few days, the world has witnessed an alarming escalation between Israel and Iran. Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities and military sites. In retaliation, Iran unleashed a massive wave of ballistic missiles and drone attacks on Israeli cities. With mounting casualties and growing international tension, many are asking:
Is this war prophesied in the Bible?
While the King James Version (KJV) does not use modern names like “Iran” or “Israel” as a nation-state, it does refer to ancient territories that correspond to today’s geography. Most notably:
Ezekiel 38:5 – “Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet.”
This verse is part of the famous Gog and Magog war prophecy, where a massive coalition of nations—including Persia (modern-day Iran)—will rise up against Israel in the “latter days.” God Himself intervenes in this war, defending Israel with supernatural power.
What we see today may not be the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 just yet—but it may very well be the setup. Iran has continually vowed to destroy Israel, and tensions have now boiled over into a full-scale military exchange. Could this be the alignment of nations that Ezekiel saw?
Isaiah 17:1 – Damascus to Become a “Ruinous Heap”
Another prophecy gaining attention is found in Isaiah 17:1:
“The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.”
Damascus—capital of Syria—is a hotspot for Iranian military activity and Israeli airstrikes. While this ancient city has suffered in war, it has never yet been utterly destroyed. If this war spreads into Syria (as it already has at times), we may be on the brink of Isaiah’s words being fulfilled—perhaps suddenly, in one night.
Jeremiah 49:34–39 – Judgment on Elam (Iran)
Jeremiah 49:35 – “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.”
“Elam” was a region in ancient southwest Iran. This prophecy speaks of Elam’s military power being shattered, its people scattered, and eventually, God restoring it in some mysterious way. Many see this as a warning of a future judgment on Iran, particularly tied to its nuclear ambitions—the very target of Israel’s most recent strikes.
Zechariah 12:2–3 – Jerusalem: A Cup of Trembling
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about…”
“…and all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces.”
God warned that in the last days, Jerusalem would be the epicenter of global conflict. Nations that interfere with it will suffer heavy consequences. As Iran’s attacks increasingly target Israeli cities and Jerusalem’s sovereignty, this prophecy becomes ever more relevant.
Matthew 24:6–7 – Wars and Rumors of Wars
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars… For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…”
Jesus listed escalating warfare as a key sign of the end times. What we see between Israel and Iran is not an isolated conflict—it’s part of a global shaking that is growing in intensity and scope.
So… Is This War in Bible Prophecy?
We cannot say with absolute certainty that this specific war is the one foretold in Ezekiel, Isaiah, or Jeremiah. But what we can say with confidence is that the pieces are moving into place:
- Iran (Persia/Elam) is rising in hostility.
- Israel is defending itself, just as the prophets said it would.
- Nations are beginning to align for larger regional conflict.
- And Bible prophecy is unfolding—in real time.
If you’re watching these events unfold, don’t let fear take hold. Let it instead drive you to prepare spiritually. Jesus Christ is coming soon. We must be filled with oil (Matthew 25), standing firm in faith, and watching with discernment. The time to play church is over. The time to follow Christ fully… is now.
Where Does the Gog and Magog War Fit?
Let’s place the War of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38–39) on the timeline:
View #1: Before the Peace Treaty – Pre-Tribulation War
Many scholars and prophecy watchers believe that the War of Gog and Magog happens BEFORE the peace treaty and may even be the catalyst that brings about the need for a treaty.
Why?
- Ezekiel 38:11 describes Israel as dwelling in “a land of unwalled villages… at rest… dwelling safely”
→ This suggests Israel feels secure—possibly after some prior conflict, or following a time of temporary peace. - After God supernaturally destroys the Gog coalition, the world may be stunned into a momentary peace and awe. This could open the door for the Antichrist to step in as a false “man of peace”, offering a treaty.
So, in this view:
Gog/Magog War → Peace Treaty Signed → Start of Tribulation (Daniel’s 70th Week)
View #2: After the Peace Treaty – Early Tribulation
Some place the Gog and Magog War shortly after the peace treaty is signed, early in the 7-year Tribulation. This is also possible because:
- Israel may feel safe due to the covenant with the Antichrist and let down their guard (“dwelling safely”).
- God’s supernatural protection of Israel during the war would wake people up spiritually and may be the reason why many nations know that the LORD is God (Ezekiel 39:6–7).
- This war does not seem to involve all nations like Armageddon does, which occurs at the end of the Tribulation (Revelation 16:16).
So, in this view:
Peace Treaty Signed → Israel dwells securely → Gog/Magog War → Middle of Tribulation
Final Thoughts
The Gog and Magog war is a specific, limited conflict involving a coalition led by Russia (Magog), Iran (Persia), and others against Israel. It is NOT the same as Armageddon, which involves all nations gathering against Christ Himself.

Israel’s efforts to start WW3 is not a prophetic event described in the bible. Instead it is believed to be the brain child of 19th century Freemason Albert Pike. Albert Pike’s letter to Italian politician Giuseppe Mazzini dated 15th August 1871, suggested that three world wars would be necessary for the establishment of a “New World Order.” It discussed how a Third World War would eventually involve a conflict between Israel and the Arab nations, leading to a global conflict that would welcome the Antichrist and set the stage for Christ’s return.
