You’ve Discovered Some Untruths About Your Church – Now What? Here’s a Proven Pathway to Successfully Navigate through the Dishonesty

(These writings are entirely my own opinion, obtained through independent study and prayerful research. I do not speak on behalf of any church or church representative.)

As a Life Coach, I have had the pleasure to assist many people who have discovered some things about their church that were untrue, and needed some assistance in wondering what to do next.

One woman, a former Relief Society President, was so distraught with her discovery, she ended up in the hospital after suffering a nervous breakdown. Over the past two years, I have come to develop what I feel is the very best approach in dealing with such a challenging event: Discovering that you’ve been deceived by your church. I have found this strategy very helpful for others, and think that it might even surprise you with how effective it is in helping you emotionally as well.

I have no intention of bashing the church, for this is the wrong road to travel when it comes to your mental and spiritual health. Instead, let’s travel a different road. Let’s approach things using the following scripture:

John 8:32 (KJV):

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

There is only ONE truth. Truth is not influenced by popular vote, nor it doesn’t matter what you or I believe, for our belief does not change the truth. Heaven is not filled with different God’s depending upon what that person believes. There is only ONE GOD, for all of us, as we are His children.

It’s also very clear that there is not a religion in heaven…just our relationship directly with Jesus Christ. A person can believe 100% that something is true, but when we all pass into the next life, we will come to find out what that truth is, regardless of their strong belief. The truth is out there…and waiting to be discovered. This is our journey.

Weather you have already left the church, or are simply just having doubts about some of the things that you’ve just discovered that appear to be dishonest teachings of the church, our plan of action is just the same.

Our spirituality is such an important part of our lives. Some people who discover dishonest teachings end up free falling into nothingness. For they thought that they knew the truth, and now that truth has been changed to something dishonest. Being told that they belonged to the only true church sends them spinning with no place to spiritually land.

I don’t want any of you freefalling into despair. In order to prevent this, it is time that we go on a spiritual discovery of what the truth even is. We will not be spending time proving what isn’t true about the church, we will simply start at the beginning in learning the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will seek the light of a true gospel which Jesus is continuing to shine for us to discover.

This discovery process will include You, God, and your Bible. Starting with a new clean sheet of white paper, we will proceed with a new set of eyes. We will not be trying to prove what we already believe, or do not believe. We will seek to learn the truth, whatever it might be. Like a detective trying to solve a crime, we will follow the evidence regardless of where it might take us.

To keep this study pure, I suggest that you do not use any other book other than the Bible. There are many versions (translations) of the bible. I invite you to choose the one that you are most comfortable with.

Do not use any religious study guide, nor Tropical Guide, for these books are influenced by the church with the intent to show you only those scriptures that support their narrative, or doctrine. Doing this leads to cloudy teachings, or a one-sided approach in learning.

Let’s discuss something now that you have been taught to stay away from… A.I. The church has informed us that we should not be using AI for spiritual study. Why? Because this tool is the fastest way to expose truth. It is also very effective in exposing deception, which is why we have been told not to use it. But from a positive perspective, think of it this way…

We are going to be studying Jesus Christ’s gospel that He taught when He was on the earth. AI is a scanning tool that can scan the entire bible and show us results in a matter of minutes. I can provide a command such as: Show me all of the scriptures in the KJV that deal with the concept of being saved by grace. AI will quickly list every scripture in the bible that supports that teaching. There is not a quicker, nor a more reliable source of study than by using the tool of AI to help you find information quickly to study.

Before we study, may I suggest that you do nothing dramatic right now. If you are currently attending church, don’t change that. Again, our intent isn’t to quit or change religions…we are simply studying to find out what the real truth is…That’s it.

So, why start this way? Why start with studying Jesus Christ in the bible?

Jesus came down to the earth to fulfill a prophecy, to atone for the sins of mankind. And, while Christ was on the earth, he taught the “Gospel of Jesus Christ.” He taught us this gospel first hand…directly from His words and actions. As we study these things, we can know what His true gospel is.

He taught us great details, perhaps many things that you are not aware of. He used parables to assist us in learning concepts of His gospel. He also used first hand experiences to show us the proper way of dealing with others, or “real life” examples.

If we spend all of our time learning what Christ taught while He was on the earth, we will come to know the truth, and not just a churches interpretation of what that gospel is.

To make things simple to understand, Jesus taught the truth when He was on the earth. Mankind has distorted the truth by adding in their own interpretation, doctrine, teachings, etc, to support “Building the Kingdom of the Church,” not the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

I learned this first-hand when denied a temple recommend because I paid my tithing directly to a homeless shelter, and not the church. The Bishop told me that this didn’t count. The money had to be paid directly to the church. So, the qualification for getting a temple recommend wasn’t based upon me fulfilling the principle of tithing by giving to the poor, (which I had done), it was an entrance fee to be given directly to the church to build their kingdom.

I mention that we would proceed with a “proven” pathway. I say this because this is how I have spent the past two years. Just me, God, and the Bible…searching for truth.

His gospel immerged brightly from my study. And the magic…When I discovered something false regarding the teachings of my church, I did not fall at all…Because I knew what the truth was. I knew where I was landing. There was no fall into uncertainty, just a switch from something that was proven false to the truth finally known…. “And the truth shall set you free.”

So, why even do this discovery of truth? The church produces awesome people, right? RIGHT! But I must tell you something very alarming. Just as we have discovered some deception within the church, a FAR GREATER deception is coming. And, rather than tell you what it is, I’m excited to let you discover this for yourself. As you continue to study the New Testament relating to the end times, you will see what I am referring to.

I will however share something very important with you right now, just to make sure that I have your attention.

Did you know that many Christian churches teach one of the greatest lies that satan has embedded in religions? Here is that lie:

We are Saved by our own works, vs Saved by Grace

Jesus is deeply offended by those who believe they are saved by their own works, because it denies the very purpose of His sacrifice. The King James Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9,

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

When people trust in their own righteousness, they reject the perfect and complete atonement of Christ, acting as if His blood was not enough.

In Galatians 2:21, Paul warns, “if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” To insist on earning salvation through works is to nullify the cross, to boast in the flesh rather than humbly receive the gift of grace. This pride grieves the heart of God, who offers salvation freely to all who believe.

So, because of our teachings through the church, you and I have been trying to earn our way into heaven. We have been doing this thinking that we were doing as Jesus Christ taught…but this thinking is actually wrong and offensive to Him. His atonement was enough! It does not need our good works to complete it.

When Christ said,

Matthew 7:23 (KJV):

“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

Was He talking about those who offended Him by not understanding the truth about the atonement?

This verse is part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, where He warns that not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven. Even those who perform miracles, prophesy, or cast out demons in His name will be rejected if they do not have a true relationship with Him.

• “I never knew you” speaks to the absence of a genuine, personal relationship with Jesus—not a lack of religious activity.
• It’s not about works or appearances but faith, obedience, and being born again.
• Those who trust in their own works instead of the grace of Christ are among those He never truly knew.

I hope that you can see with the truths that I have shared today, it is worth us spending some time trying to discover the truth about His gospel. Even things that we thought we were doing right might not be the same thing that He taught when He was on the earth.

On last suggestion. This is also a great time to enhance “Personal Revelation” from Jesus Christ as well. We have been taught:

James 1:5–6

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Pray before you start your study. When you have come to know something, pray about what you have learned that you might know the truth of what was said. Then listen. You know that the Holy Ghost is an incredible teacher. You will also get into the habit of seeking truth directly from God, and no one else. Then, with the things that He will tell you, TRUST that personal revelation…regardless of what any mortal person tells you otherwise.

So, our plan forward is to study concepts in the New Testament to flush out the truths. If you need some help getting started, I invite you to study about the thief that was on the cross next to Jesus. After a short conversation, Jesus said this to the thief:

— Luke 23:43, KJV

“And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

To me, this is one of the most powerful “Real life” experiences that Jesus had that teach us volumes about His gospel. The thief didn’t attend a church, pay tithing, and was actually being punished because of a crime (sin), but Jesus told him that He would be with him in paradise. Why is that? (Again, as you study, you are not trying to prove what you already know. Look at this with a new set of spiritual eyes, and you will see a very important part of His gospel that you were never taught.

Does a person need to jump through all of the hoops that a church requires to make it into heaven? If this is the case, why did Jesus say to a person who didn’t jump through any church hoops that He would see him in paradise?

I’m excited to assist you with your journey forward. Remember, when we all die, our churches will be nowhere to be found. It will be just our relationship with Jesus Christ. That being the case, it makes perfect sense to enhance that relationship directly with Him right now.

By doing this, you will see the purity of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It does not produce any guilt, rather…FREEDOM. We want to live our best life to honor Him, not because we are told that we have to…to earn our way into heaven.
