Immigrants in South Africa Evade Authorities and Vowed Never to Return

 

“South Africa is our home. Because there is now poverty, you want to chase us away.”

“I have my two children with a South African woman; I can’t go away.”

“My boyfriend is South African, and we have one child.”

This is what some so-called undocumented immigrants in South Africa are saying.

What are South Africans saying?

 “I get rent from three rooms I rent to Zimbabweans.”

 

“We are not here permanently; we must show love to our brothers in difficult situations.”

 

The so-called undocumented immigrants are documented. Many have asylum permits that have expired. Tens of thousands have come with passports, and the days they were granted have expired.
The 200,000 Zimbabweans granted ZEP permits are just the same as those without; they all came in the same way.

South Africa’s dog-eat-dog policies do not help. Immigrants are not the reason for massive unemployment in South Africa. COVID-19 and corruption have eroded jobs in South Africa.

Evil foreign policies of the government of former Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma have contributed to the influx of foreigners in South Africa.

President Ramaphosa is just caught up in problems he did not create. He is trying his best to be a solution to complicated social issues.

Solution to immigrant problems: the ANC government must tell its liberation allies in neighboring countries to fix their economies or help them by investing there.
The ANC-led coalition government must embrace immigrants in the same way it embraces its liberation friends.

Document immigrants. Charge a fee for a permit; this will help pay extra Home Affairs officials and generate income for reviving the local economy. Granting immigrants permits will help fight crime. Employ a certain number of immigrants in the police force.

Since the Americans and Europeans are rejecting South Africa, it is time to focus on creating strong markets in Africa, not on agonizing fellow Africans. Investing in capital machinery and creating manufacturing companies will create more jobs.

This idea of arresting, detaining, and deporting Africans in Africa does not make sense. Africa is fighting itself. Therefore, we will be beggars to Westerners, Russians, and Chinese, and impoverished forever.
How are foreigners surviving in South Africa? Foreigners are well united in battling xenophobia, stigmatization, and evading arrest for documents.

Foreigners claim that the police charge them R1000 instantly when they don’t have documents. If they are taken to the police station, they come out after paying R3000. So, it is cheaper to pay at the same time they are arrested.

Foreigners have created social media groups on WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook to alert each other about problems on the road or where they stay. In these private groups, there are also South Africans who support them and give them key information.
These are the battles and survival strategies of vulnerable Africans in South Africa.

Foreigners who witness crime now do not go to the police station to report nor call the police for fear that they will be asked for documents. Even if they know the suspects who did something wrong, they don’t report because they will also be arrested for documents.
