The UN’s Push for Peace in Israel – Current New York Meeting - Could This Be the Covenant of Daniel 9?

As world leaders gather in New York for the 80th United Nations General Assembly, one theme has overshadowed nearly every speech, summit, and side-meeting: peace in Israel and Palestine. War rages in Gaza, hostages remain in captivity, humanitarian suffering deepens, and nations are under growing pressure to act.

This week, we are seeing governments call for an end to the fighting, recognition of a Palestinian state, and the framework of what they call a “New York Declaration”—a detailed plan laying out steps toward a two-state solution.

The declaration, endorsed earlier this month by an overwhelming majority of the UN General Assembly, lays out a time-bound path (about 15 months) toward Palestinian sovereignty, including disarmament of Hamas, reforms within the Palestinian Authority, and strong international oversight. At the same time, many Western nations—France, Canada, Australia, and others—have formally recognized a Palestinian state during the UN’s high-level week.

The United States, Israel, and a handful of allies oppose these moves, but the global momentum is unmistakable: the world is demanding a peace deal.

Prophecy and the Seven-Year Covenant

For students of the Bible, these developments sound strikingly familiar. The prophet Daniel was given a vision of the last days, and in Daniel 9:27 (KJV) we read:

“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…”

Many Bible scholars interpret this “week” as a prophetic seven-year period. The “covenant with many” is seen as a peace agreement involving Israel and surrounding nations—a treaty that begins with hope but ultimately ushers in the Tribulation. Halfway through (three and a half years), the Antichrist breaks the covenant, setting off the Great Tribulation.

Could the UN’s New York Declaration and the sudden global push for a binding peace framework be the groundwork for this covenant? The timing, the language of “many nations” involved, and the growing international consensus all echo Daniel’s prophecy.

What This Means for Believers

1. Watch the Signs – Scripture warns us not to be caught unaware. Jesus said in Matthew 24:33: “So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”
   The rising call for peace in Israel is not just political—it is prophetic.
2. Do Not Be Deceived – Many will see this peace process as the ultimate solution, but the Bible warns it will be temporary and deceptive. True and lasting peace will only come when the Prince of Peace returns.
3. Prepare Spiritually – If the covenant spoken of in Daniel is near, then so is the Tribulation. Now is the time to strengthen our walk with Christ, share the gospel boldly, and encourage others to repent and believe in Him.

The nations of the world are moving rapidly toward what looks like the prophetic covenant Daniel foretold more than 2,500 years ago. While politicians speak of “two states” and “lasting peace,” the Word of God tells us this agreement will not last—it will mark the beginning of the final countdown to Christ’s return.

Could the “High-Level Week” Signal More Than Diplomacy?

As world leaders descend on New York for the High-Level Week of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (23-30 September 2025), the crescendo of voices, speeches, summits, and declarations is revealing more than policy talk—it may be laying blueprints for something prophetic.

Let’s look at what’s scheduled, what is unfolding, and how this could connect with the biblical prophecy of a seven-year peace covenant (Daniel 9:27).

What is “High-Level Week”?

According to UN sources:

The theme for UNGA 80 is “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.” The week is intended as a time to renew global cooperation, multilateralism, and to accelerate efforts on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key platforms running during the week include:

SDG Media Zone (22-26 Sept): Interviews, panels, stories around progress toward SDGs.

Goals Lounge (20-26 Sept): More interactive, unscripted dialogues; space for civil society, youth, business etc.

The General Debate (23-27 & 29 Sept) is the core: heads of state and government deliver speeches laying out priorities, positions, and often big announcements.

How the Events of High-Level Week Relate to the 7-Year Covenant Prophecy

When you map out High-Level Week’s dates and themes, some patterns are striking if you are viewing through a prophetic lens:

Public Covenant Moment(s):
The High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution (22 Sept) is perhaps the clearest moment where a “covenant with many” is being publicly asserted. If declarations or agreements emerge from this meeting that commit nations to timelines, oversight, peace steps, it could be seen as the start of a prophetic “week” (i.e. 7-year period) in some interpretations.

International Agreement & Recognition:
Coupled with the General Debate (23-29 Sept), where countries often make their public positions known, the momentum during this week might include new recognitions, endorsements of the “New York Declaration,” and support for peace frameworks. These acts could be part of confirming the covenant with “many” nations.

Peace framed within Larger Global Agenda:
The fact that peace in Israel/Palestine is being discussed within a larger agenda of the SDGs, climate, development, human rights mean any covenant made will likely involve many stakeholders—not just Israel and Palestine—but nations, NGOs, civil society, financial institutions. That aligns with Daniel’s “many.”

Time-bound Plans & Implementation Signals:
Some events (like finance summit, SDG follow-ups) might not explicitly mention Israel, but they set the nature of how global promises are tracked, timelines are monitored, and how international cooperation is enforced. In prophetic framework, such mechanisms could be the scaffolding of how a covenant could be managed over time.

Warning: Deception, Pressure, Compromise:
From a scriptural perspective, prophecy warns that such a peace will be temporary and may involve compromises that later become contentious (e.g. halting sacrifice, or being broken). The urgency of the High-Level Week setting, the visibility, the involvement of many nations, all heighten both the promise and the risk of disappointment or betrayal.

Thus, High-Level Week isn’t just another diplomatic cycle—it may well be the birth week of the working covenant. If so, the counting begins. Whether all prophetic interpretation agrees, this week offers more than symbolism—it offers possible milestones.

Implications for Believers

This week may bring the public moments that prophets have long watched for: declarations, treaties, recognitions, which often precede the more difficult periods.

If a covenant is confirmed now, then the midpoint (three and a half years) becomes something to watch closely: is there betrayal, reversal, or some breaking of agreement?

Believers should watch not only what is said, but what is signed / committed, with which nations, and with what conditions. These details matter both for prophetic alignment and for spiritual readiness.

I am still drawn to answering this question related to this scripture: Has the “Falling Away” happened yet? This must be fulfilled before we meet the antichrist:

2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV):

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”

From a biblical perspective:

Not fully. Paul connects the falling away with the revealing of the man of sin (the Antichrist). Since the Antichrist has not yet openly taken power or declared himself as God in the temple (2 Thess. 2:4), the complete fulfillment hasn’t happened.

Partial fulfillments are visible. Many point to trends already happening:

• • Widespread rejection of biblical truth, even in churches (doctrinal compromise, false teachers).
  • The growth of secularism, atheism, and hostility toward Christianity in many nations.
  • Large portions of professing Christians embracing unbiblical teachings.
  • A growing push toward a one-world religion that diminishes Jesus Christ as the only way.

So where does this leave us?

• The “falling away” is already unfolding in stages—we see it in the erosion of truth and faith today.
• But the complete, climactic apostasy linked directly to the Antichrist’s rise and revelation is still future.

In short: We are seeing signs of it now, but according to Scripture, the Great Falling Away reaches its peak just before and during the revealing of the Antichrist.
