Righteously Angry Zimbabweans Took SA Minister McKenzie to the ICC

South Africa’s Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie — also the leader of the Patriotic Alliance — made a declaration that should shake every conscience on this continent: he said he would not hesitate to switch off a foreign national’s oxygen supply in order to save a South African. These are not the words of a statesman. These are the words of a man who has lost his moral compass entirely.

Between a South African and a Zimbabwean, no one is more important than the other. Every human being who walks into a hospital ward carries the same God-given dignity, the same right to breathe, the same right to live. Minister McKenzie’s declaration is not politics. It is not patriotism. It is an invitation to murder — spoken from a platform of power, directed at the most vulnerable people on South African soil.

ZEPHA Takes McKenzie to the International Criminal Court

The Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Holders Association (ZEPHA) has now done what South Africa’s own institutions have refused to do. They have filed charges against Minister Gayton McKenzie at the International Criminal Court, holding him personally responsible for crimes against humanity committed against African foreign nationals in South Africa.

ZEPHA’s Official Statement

ZEPHA reported that McKenzie knew his comments would spark widespread xenophobic attacks against foreign African nationals — specifically at South African hospitals and clinics — but made them anyway, because his position of privilege gave him the power to commit crimes against humanity at scale, with impunity. ZEPHA further stated that South Africa’s president, prosecution services, parliament, and judiciary have all failed or refused to take any action against McKenzie.

ZEPHA’s top lawyer, Advocate Simba Chitando, confirmed that many more South Africans will be reported to the ICC in the coming weeks. The international community is now watching. Africa is watching. And God is watching.

A Pattern of Incitement — and a Lavish Lifestyle While the Poor Suffer

McKenzie is a bramble leader — a man who grows upward only by entangling and choking those around him. He incites xenophobia and hatred against other Africans while enjoying a lifestyle that would make any honest South African citizen ask hard questions. In March, ActionSA publicly questioned McKenzie’s travel expenses. He preaches sacrifice for ordinary South Africans while himself living well off the public purse.

His dangerous words did not emerge in isolation. They came alongside footage of Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba lambasting foreign nationals for supposedly overburdening South Africa’s health system. These are not isolated incidents — they are coordinated signals to a public already strained by poverty and unemployment, telling them who to blame. And that blame is a lie.

Foreigners Used as Political Capital — A Sign of Failed Leadership

We know that the majority of South African people are suffering poverty and lack of jobs as a consequence of COVID-19, mismanagement, and corruption. It is precisely because of this suffering that foreign nationals are now being weaponised as political capital. Leaders who use foreigners as scapegoats and political capital lack wisdom. They have no genuine capacity to lead.

The Economic Freedom Fighters called on President Ramaphosa to take action against McKenzie for promoting anti-foreigner sentiment. That call has not been heeded. And every day of silence from the presidency is an endorsement of the incitement that continues.

A Call to Neighbouring Nations

Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya, and other African countries must formally blacklist McKenzie. His words are not merely offensive — they are a safety threat to their citizens living, working, and seeking medical care in South Africa. Diplomatic action is not an overreaction. It is a responsibility.

We cannot trust McKenzie. He has demonstrated publicly that he can plot evil against foreign nationals who are sick in hospital. That trust is broken — not by foreign nationals, but by the minister himself.

A Continent That Cannot Afford to Fail Its Own People

Our African brothers hold positions of enormous power and responsibility across this continent. Yet in too many places — and South Africa is now a stark example — that power has been squandered on tribalism, scapegoating, and self-enrichment. When leadership fails the people it was entrusted to serve, the vulnerable always pay the price first.

If action is not taken swiftly and decisively, South Africa will likely face a genocide against foreigners and against its white minority population. These are not words written lightly. They are a warning drawn from decades of watching how dehumanising rhetoric — when left unchallenged by institutions — always ends.

⚠   If incitement is not stopped now, South Africa faces the risk of genocide against foreigners and minorities. History has taught us this lesson — at tremendous cost.

McKenzie must be removed from office. South Africa’s political parties — across all coalitions — must condemn this incitement without qualification. And ordinary South Africans who know in their hearts that a sick Zimbabwean in a hospital bed is just a human being who needs care must find their voice. Now.
