Where only love is the gain,
“we put an animal down,
out of its misery” the argument came,
why can’t we treat each other the same?
Instead of taking, try the art of giving.
An animal is owned, the owner decides for them
the animal has no choice and after all you know best.
Imagine you are chosen,
it’s time to end your existence,
no vain useless protest,
now I suspect that would be the dreadful test!
Imagine the state owning your life,
imagine “Big Brother”
instilling that terrible sense of dread.
A mercy killing,
we don’t need your voice,
you really won’t have a choice,
the state free to decide when;
when you are a being a burden to society,
when you have outstayed your usefulness,
when you are a drain on the resources,
when you matter so little you have no say anymore,
imagine the power to cut short life and say it is a blessing?
or when you are told legally “we can say, you are better off dead.”
Assist our living,
choose a culture of life
don’t decide for me
don’t take away my dignity
don’t tell me I will feel so much better,
death is final
no coming back,
life is finite, yes, it will end one day
it’s all we have, don’t snatch it away
and tell me it really is for my own good.
Do no harm, cherish all life, if only you would.
