Zimbabwe’s Devastating Healthcare Crisis – Patients treated with cardboad boxes and sealotape
Zimbabwe’s hospitals are facing a severe crisis, lacking even the most basic medical supplies. In a shocking display of creativity amidst desperation, doctors have resorted to using pieces of cardboard boxes and sealotape to treat accident victims.
A recent bus accident involving an Urban Connect bus resulted in the tragic loss of over 30 lives. Some of the survivors were left with broken limbs, which were then treated with makeshift casts made from cardboard boxes.
This heartbreaking situation is a symptom of Zimbabwe’s broader economic and humanitarian crisis. Poverty, hunger, and drought have pushed the country to the brink of disaster. Jobs are scarce, and major shops lack food due to the economic downturn. Children are dropping out of school as parents struggle to pay fees.
