It is imperative for organizations and individuals committed to the sanctity of human life to file an urgent lawsuit aimed at compelling South African hospitals and clinics to continue administering antiretroviral (ARV) treatment to foreign nationals, regardless of their status in the country.
Halting ARVs once treatment has commenced poses significant risks to patients, as they can develop resistance to the medication. This puts tens of thousands of foreign nationals in jeopardy, a matter that urgently requires the attention of the ANC government.
I propose that the South African Department of Health implement a policy charging minimal fees for ARVs, allowing patients to pay for the treatment they desperately need. It is also essential for the Department to collect data on foreign nationals accessing these medications and to seek support from other African governments, the European Union, and various benefactors. This approach would enhance the sustainability of the health services provided.
The abrupt termination of ARV treatment is not only inhumane but also an act of cruelty fueled by unfounded animosity towards foreign nationals who contribute significantly to a struggling South African economy.
Additionally, another lawsuit should be initiated against entities like Operation Dudula and the March and March group for obstructing patients from accessing hospitals. These organizations must face substantial and punitive fines for their actions, which are deliberately undermining the lives of innocent individuals.
