Workforce Morale Just Collapsed After Major Meta Layoff Announcement (Video)

Many of the job cuts are attributed to a shift in focus toward artificial intelligence. A leaked memo revealed a plan to rebrand remaining engineers as “AI builders” and organize them into ‘pods’. Employees have described the period between the announcement and the actual layoff date as “28 days of hell”, characterized by extreme anxiety and a state of limbo. The layoffs are expected to impact various departments, including global operations, sales, recruiting, and the Reality Labs division. Internal documents suggest Meta expects roughly 65 percent of its engineers to write more than 75 percent of their code using AI tools by the first half of this year. Impacted staff will reportedly receive a package including 16 weeks of base pay, plus two additional weeks for every year of service, and 18 months of COBRA health coverage.
This latest round follows previous significant reductions, including 11,000 workers cut in late 2022 and another 10,000 in early 2023.
