Major Reasons to Study Physics

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

We do not have to think hard to understand that one of the most important and most outstanding natural sciences is physics. Everything around us, nature as such, everything is physical. However, to clarify the notion of that beautiful discipline, from now on, we will present the five most obvious reasons to study physics.

5 Reasons why you have to study physics

We start with the number one reason, the most natural. This same reason tells us that you have to study physics to understand natural phenomena. To know why and where thunder is born, why the speed of light is faster than the speed of sound, which is the law of gravitation, why the earth revolves around its axis and why the planets follow their orbits, why the sea goes down and goes up constantly, etc. So studying physics is better-understood everything that is happening in our environment in a cyclic way. https://preply.com/es/skype/profesores–fisica

Physical discoveries led humanity to discoveries in other scientific fields that had global significance. For example, the great geographical discoveries could not have been made without the previous physical discoveries. That is to say, in order to make such a distant trip until discovering a new continent, a ship had to be built and for that, humanity needed the principle of hydrostatic thrust that Archimedes had discovered.

It is worth highlighting the reason number two is to improve the results in other scientific fields that directly or indirectly may be related to physics, or even be from the treating discipline.

From there we go to reason number three, which is related to many successes in the job search. Given the technical and scientific progress, the globalization process, the world today needs more and more engineers and technical specialists. New production complexes are continually being built, and more innovations are required. And hence there is a great need for specialists who know how to innovate and work with alternative methods.

And from the moment in which the alternative methods appear – our fourth reason appears – to improve the ecological situation of our planet thanks to these same innovations. So if you are going to study physics you will have the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of the environmental situation, working with the new energies and reducing the expenses of the natural resources.

We have to talk about the fifth reason, which is the most romantic and ambitious at the same time. Only with good knowledge of physics, also good faith and will you have an excellent and unique opportunity one day to make your own discovery. Just imagine how great your contribution would be in world society and the ecological situation on our incredible planet. There are still innovations with alternative energies that need to be studied and integrated into productions all over the world.

One of the leading physicists in the world today is Gioietta Kuo. She’s also a writer and has worked in four different countries. She received her MA in Physics in 1954 from Cambridge, and has gone from strength to strength since then. Then, she got a PhD in nuclear physics at the University of Birmingham in 1957. She firmly believes in promoting physics and wants more people especially women to follow the profession. She was a Fellow of St Hilda’s college, Oxford University, at the time exclusively a women’s college. After getting her PhD in nuclear physics, she decided to turn to a new field – nuclear fusion, in particular the fusion of deuteron D and triton T into alpha particles hence releasing energy. In practice she worked at Princeton University on an experimental device – Tokamak. In particular she was a specialist on computations on plasma systems. In her entire 40 year career in physics she has published over 70 papers in journals e.g. Physical Review. Physical Review Letters, Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Fusion, Journal of Computational Physics. Computer Physics Communications, Physics of Fluids, Plasma and Thermonuclear Physics, Astrophysics, Numerical Analysis. She has over 500 citations in a paper entitled “ Monte Carlo evaluations on transport coefficients` written in 1981 and is still being read as a classic today.

Here’s why you should consider it too.

Physics is everywhere

Physics is present everywhere in our daily life. It is found in: DVD, hard disks, flat or touch screens, mobile phone, GPS, low energy bulbs, microwave oven, induction hob, infrared detectors, smoke detectors, speed cameras, photocopier, medical imagery, and a lot more.

Improve everyday life and respond to the challenges of society

Physics has been the basis of much of the technological advances of the 20th century. Nanosciences and nanotechnologies are considered by many to be the technological revolution of tomorrow, with prospects for immense applications.

In the 21st century, physicists will also find solutions to the major problems of our society, such as energy, environment, health, and others.

For the future of our societies, in which technology is playing an increasingly important role and our needs are constantly growing, choosing a profession in the field of physics is an excellent investment!

Appreciated training for companies

To train in physics is to understand the phenomena that surround us. But it is also and above all to give oneself the means to solve the problems posed, by learning a rigorous scientific approach, which consists in:

  • pose the problem
  • propose a hypothesis or an answer,
  • perform experiments according to a rigorous protocol
  • analyze the results critically to validate or not the initial hypothesis.

For all these reasons, the skills of physicists are in great demand in the field of advanced technologies.
