By tomorrow, Adele could very well be sitting high on her throne as having the largest sales week of any album…..period. Yes, her new release, 25, is set to sell even more than N’Sync’s commercial juggernaut, No Strings Attached which sold over 2.4 million copies in its first week alone, back in 2000. If Adele has her way, she’ll be able to slam the naysayers that doubted her staying power with over 2.5 million units sold (1.5 million in pure sales and over 900,000 in downloads). I must admit, she has one heck of a voice and I’m somewhat of a fan of hers, so I decided to check out her latest release. After giving birth to her son Angelo with boyfriend Simon Konecki, I expected the cleverly titled (*insert sarcastic glance here*) 25 album to be more multi-dimensional than her previous works.
First of all, if Adele’s first single “Hello” is any way remotely tied to the experience of her ex that inspired “Someone Like You”, “Rolling in the Deep” and nearly every freaking song on 21, then he should run for his life and take the baby with him. She’s clearly not over him and hasn’t been since the flip phone she used in the music video was popular. There are moments when Adele adds in refreshing, new elements musically.
