This is Nuts – Pecans with Salmonella are recalled
On Friday, August 1, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall involving Navarro Pecan Holdings, LLC. This ongoing recall was voluntarily initiated by Navarro on July 10 and has yet to receive a termination notice.
As stated in the recall notice issued by the FDA, Navarro has recalled approximately 32,670 pounds of Fancy Medium pecans, which were available in various packaging sizes ranging from small to jumbo. The notice indicates that the recall was prompted by the possibility that the pecans may have been contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterial infection characterized by symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain.
Furthermore, the recall has been classified as Class 1, the highest classification for food and drug recalls, indicating that the agency has assessed the risk as “reasonably probable” enough to suggest that exposure could lead to “adverse consequences, or death.
Distributors across five U.S. states, as well as in Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates, were informed through various means, including but not limited to email, fax, postal mail, and telephone. Although a press release was not issued, the notice specified that the U.S. states involved in the recall included Arizona, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Texas.
