Well, there’s a group of women in Memphis behind a healing hive of empowerment with honey at its base.
Joy Layton is the Master Beekeeper of 20 hives at an urban farm in South Memphis.
“It is a very complex community… and what’s also very interesting is to understand that one hive of bees, they are their own little city,” she said while describing hive life, adding, “you have a situation… they have to all be together … the workers are all sisters to one another.”
These sisters share a common goal of keeping the hive healthy and the honey abundant.
