The founder of Quinn Farm, who introduced hundreds of thousands of urbanites to the importance of agriculture on the outskirts of Montreal, has died at 78.

With his wife, Stephanie, they put in new attractions for children, and increased their market offerings, baking up to 500 apple pies a day for the close to 10,000 visitors who flocked to the farm on late-September weekends. Attendance grew to more than 175,000 visitors a year, and the farm employs about 40 people, depending on the season.
Quinn passed on his passion for agriculture to his five children, some of whom are still working on the farm alongside Phil.
“He loved his farm so much,” they wrote. “He was so proud” of his varieties of apples, of all the trees he planted long ago that protect them from high winds and hot sun, of his tractors and his ponds and his rich and fertile soils.
“Everyone was so proud that his family worked on these same floors, and that every year tens of thousands of people gathered there with joy.”
