We first listed City Beet for sale on January 20th, 2026. Since then, the yard in Southlands that has been part of the farm since 2019 is no longer part of the farm, so we have updated the listing to reflect this change.
Without the Southlands site the total area of the farm is roughly ¼ acre.
Implications for the sale:
We are reducing the asking price for the business to $65,000.
Without adding additional yards to the farm for this season we would recommend reducing the number of CSA shares sold by half (45 shares).
Some of the physical assets of the farm were acquired with the purpose of being used at Southlands specifically and would not work as well in the other yards. As such we have updated the list of physical assets that will be transferred in the sale.
While losing the Southlands property presents some limitations to the farm, it does also present some opportunities for the buyer:
At the new scale, the farm could be operated by a two-person partnership with little to no additional labour. This means employment expenses would be drastically reduced or eliminated.
The lower price for the business represents a lower barrier to entry.
While the space is currently reduced, we maintain a list of interested landowners and the farm’s physical assets and goodwill (customer lists, brand, etc.) remain scaled to greater production capacity, meaning the buyer could potentially build the farm back to its 2021-2025 scale quickly.
The smaller scale of the farm is more accessible to buyers with limited prior farming experience.
The buyer will not need to drive the trailer to and from Southlands once a week.
