Korea: Seoul’s Gangdong-gu Launches 2026 Eco-Friendly Urban Farm Program

Gangdong-gu in Seoul has begun operating its 2026 eco-friendly urban farms, the district office said Wednesday.
The district opened four public farms — Gangil Farm, Garaeyeoul 1 Farm, Garaeyeoul 2 Farm and Gangdong Healing Farm — on the 21st of last month, with operations running through the end of November.
The Gangil, Garaeyeoul 1 and Garaeyeoul 2 farms comprise a total of 630 plots, which have been allocated to district residents on a household basis through an application process. Gangdong Healing Farm in Amsa-dong, with 123 plots, has been distributed to welfare facilities and organizations for the disabled within the district.
To prevent crop theft, the district last year installed two closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at Gangil Farm and introduced the “Ask Anything Farm Consultation Center,” which provides on-site farming information and cultivation know-how.
“Gangdong-gu’s eco-friendly urban farms are more than just a space for growing vegetables — they are a valuable community venue where residents can connect with nature and communicate with their neighbors,” Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Soo-hee said. “We will continue to safeguard both the health of our residents and the urban environment.”
