Not all park foragers are educated in the safety of the plants. If you want to consume these plants, then grow your own. Maybe Robin Greenfield could initiate a community garden for such activities.

How disappointing that Robin Greenfield’s foraging activities in the county parks are highlighted as somehow idealistic (“Famed forager shares his ways despite law, warnings against it,” Aug. 15).
While the reporter acknowledges foraging activities are against the law, the overall tone is that of “Robin Hood living off the land” and encouraging others to do so.
As the groups that are breaking their backs every day to keep the county parks alive and well can tell you, many foragers trample endangered plants to get the ones they want, leave a wake of pulled up plants and trash and take plants and aquatic species that are endangered.
Not all these foragers are educated in the safety of the plants. If you want to consume these plants, then grow your own. Maybe Greenfield could initiate a community garden for such activities.
