Developing News: Netanyahu Says Co-Pilot Stabbed Captain, Tried to Crash Flight (Video)
In this 30 September 2026 published video, Fox News correspondent Jeff Paul reports on Israel-bound FlyDubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv which made a harrowing emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after the co-pilot stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the plane. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a catastrophic mid-air disaster was averted when passengers and crew members broke into the cockpit and subdued the attacker.
Inside the cockpit, the co-pilot—identified by an Israeli official as an Omani national—violently attacked and stabbed the flight’s captain, Smit Machchhar, an Indian citizen. The aircraft suddenly plummeted 17,400 feet in less than two minutes, causing massive panic and screaming throughout the cabin. A passenger named Yaniv recounted breaking into the cockpit, placing the attacker in a chokehold, and pulling back on the plane’s controls. Other travelers and crew stepped in to fully restrain the assailant and stabilize the aircraft. The flight issued a 7500 transponder code indicating a hijacking, prompting the Israeli Air Force to scramble fighter jets before the situation was contained.
The plane safely diverted to Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Captain Machchhar and the co-pilot were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Saudi authorities took the attacker into custody at the airport and are currently conducting interrogations. While Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz called the incident an “attempted jihadist terror attack,” an official motive has not yet been formally confirmed by international investigators. A replacement flight has since transported the passengers, most of whom are Israeli citizens, safely back to Israel.
