1.Introduction

While the public is told their loved ones are saving lives through organ donation, the truth is far more disturbing. The 2023/2024 Annual Report on the National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS) reveals a deeply unethical system where organs are taken from individuals who may not be truly dead, under questionable definitions and without full public awareness of their rights under the so-called ‘opt-out’ system.

2.Key Findings

1. Industrial Scale Organ Harvesting

In just one year, 1,761 donors were attended by NORS teams, with 86% proceeding to abdominal organ donation and 59% of those seen by cardiothoracic teams proceeding to heart or lung retrieval [1].

2. Donors Declared Dead by Convenience (DCD)

Donors after Circulatory Death (DCD) outnumbered traditional brain-dead donors (DBD). These individuals are not brain dead. Instead, organs are retrieved shortly after withdrawing life support and stopping the heart—often under time pressure, with questionable depth of dying [1].

3. Perfusion Technologies: Restarting Circulation in the Dead?

Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (A-NRP) restores blood flow to the organs while specifically excluding the brain. This means circulation is restarted to the body while ensuring the brain cannot be perfused—suggesting an awareness that full death may not have occurred [1]. In 193 cases, A-NRP was used, with 161 proceeding to donation [1].

4. DCD Hearts: The Beating Heart of Darkness

In 74 cases, DCD hearts were retrieved, and 65 were transplanted—despite the donors not being brain dead [1]. The heart, a symbol of life, was removed from people declared dead only by circulatory cessation, then perfused back to life in a machine. This is arguably killing for organs.

5. Missing Paperwork and Off-Duty Retrievals

There were 17 instances where retrievals were conducted by teams officially off duty. Edinburgh reported a 6.7% missing rate of retrieval forms [1]. This raises serious concerns over governance, oversight, and consent verification.

6. No Discussion of Consent or Opt-Out Awareness

Nowhere in the report is there data on how many families were informed, consented, or objected. The public is largely unaware that they are automatically enrolled unless they explicitly opt out.

The UK operates an ‘opt-out’ system, meaning you are presumed to have consented to organ donation unless you explicitly state otherwise. If you do not wish to donate your organs, you must officially register your decision.

8. How to Opt Out of Organ Donation in the United Kingdom

Quote: “The scientific literature does not support the claim that brain death is equivalent to death. Brain death is a legal invention.” — Verheijde et al. (2012) [2]

The primary reason for declaring brain death as death? To justify the removal of beating hearts, functioning lungs, and other vital organs from individuals who are, by all other measures, still alive. This is not science—it is sanitised murder.

A landmark peer-reviewed article by Verheijde et al. (2012) confirms what many suspected: brain death is a legal invention, not true biological death [2]. Brain-dead individuals maintain heartbeat, circulation, hormonal function, and in some cases, can even gestate foetuses. Tests used to determine brain death—such as the apnea test—can themselves damage the brain further. Globally inconsistent definitions of brain death reveal the lack of scientific grounding.

7. Brain Death is Not Death – The Legal Fiction

3.Conclusion: This is Not Donation. This is Extraction.

With consent barely mentioned, brain death bypassed via DCD, and perfusion machines masking the finality of death, the NORS data reveals a system that prioritises organ retrieval over true ethical standards. The public has been deceived. This is not compassion—it is commodification of the dying.

Families must be informed. Consent must be honoured. Lives should never be taken to extend others. Opt out now. Demand full transparency. And tell others the truth.
