Boost Your Collagen Production With These 5 Homemade Remedies

Article originally published on The Lost Herbs

Collagen is essential to keeping skin looking supple. It’s the primary element to aging gracefully. No matter what, as we age, collagen production begins to slow down, and years of sun exposure, toxins, and stress can only accelerate this process.

The result? Fine lines, dullness, and skin that doesn’t bounce back the way it used to.

There are plenty of creams that promise to replenish collagen, but nature has everything you need. Herbs, oils, and some foods are packed with boosters like amino acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. Plus, these options don’t have a hefty price tag.

In this post, we’ll boost your collagen production with these 5 homemade remedies, including a great recipe for Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter. The more you nourish your body from the inside out, the more your skin will thank you. Keep reading to learn how to get your best skin yet.

5 Remedies That Boost Collagen Production

You don’t need fancy skincare routines to boost collagen production. In fact, boosting collagen often starts from the inside out. Here are 5 remedies you can whip up in minutes.

Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter

Hibiscus is known as the “Botox plant,” and it shows a lot of promise in boosting hyaluronic acid. When combined with rosehip oil, another collagen-booster, you have a powerhouse body butter that keeps skin beautiful at any age. Keep reading for the full recipe.

Speaking of natural alternatives to Botox—there’s a recipe called Better Than Botox that’s renowned for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without the use of synthetic chemicals.

It uses natural ingredients that stimulate collagen production and tighten skin—no injections, no paralysis, no side effects.

Infused Body Oil

For a lighter option, consider an infused body oil. Great herbs for your oil include gotu kola, which is particularly effective at restoring lost collagen. Another excellent choice is horsetail, which strengthens the skin’s connective tissue.

Creating an infused oil is easy; simply add the oil and your herbs of choice to a double boiler set in a saucepan filled with a bit of water. Warm over low heat for 15-20 minutes, until the oil is fragrant and has taken on a dark color. Strain the herbs and use the oil as you would any moisturizer.

Nicole Apelian teaches you how to make oils at home—essential oils, body oils, even specialized remedies like Mullein and Garlic Infused Oil for vertigo and ear-related issues.

Herbal Tea

Internal remedies work just as well to improve skin health. You can make your own blend to sip on throughout the day. Wondering which herbs work? Try nettle leaf, which helps reduce the outer effects of oxidative stress, and rosehips, which are beneficial for multiple skin disorders. Just a tablespoon will do, and consistency is best, so drink once a day.

Or, you can have nettle tea too—but none will compare to the effectiveness of a tincture, where all compounds are extracted and concentrated in a few drops of what nature has to offer.

I personally get a Stinging Nettle Tincture from Nicole’s Apothecary, or even make my own when I have the time (rarely). I pour it in any tea because the taste of nettle on its own is too bitter for me—or even just in water.

Face Masks

Homemade face masks are a budget-friendly way to improve the look of your skin. Great face mask elements include aloe vera, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and green tea, full of antioxidants that slow the aging process.

Mix 2 tablespoons of thick aloe vera gel (pure, no fillers) with 1 teaspoon of cooled green tea and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply and let sit on the face for 10 minutes, then rinse.

Bone Broth

One of the most collagen-rich foods is bone broth. When the broth simmers low and slow, it pulls collagen from the bones, creating a rich, hearty drink. You can make it with beef or chicken bones.

Simmer the bones in a large pot of water on low for at least 6 hours, then strain, add salt and pepper, and enjoy. You can also add herbs like turmeric, dandelion root, and ginger for extra benefits.

How to Make Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter

Now that you know which herbs and moisturizers boost collagen, it’s time to put them together into a luxurious Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter. This recipe is wonderful to keep on hand during cold winter months, but let’s be honest, it’s great all year. Here’s how this body butter comes together.

  • 2 tablespoons dried rose petals
  • ¼ cup jojoba oil
  • ½ cup grass-fed tallow or shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon rosehip oil

How to Use This Remedy

To use your Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter, take a small amount of cream and warm it between your palms. Then, apply to clean skin. This remedy is great when used after bathing, to help lock in natural moisture.

You can apply it daily, with extra concentration on dry parts, such as elbows and knees. If you have really dry skin, you can use your body butter as a face moisturizer or overnight treatment.

This body butter works great for dry elbows and knees. But if you need something for scratches, scars, burns, marks, bug bites—everything skin-related—I keep an All-Purpose Salve as my first aid option.

It’s perfectly tailored for wounds, inflammation, and skin issues. I always have one in my bag and one at home.

Click here for the all-purpose salve that handles every skin emergency.

Keep your Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep in mind that this recipe does not have synthetic preservatives, so it won’t last as long as store-bought alternatives.

When stored properly, you can expect a shelf life of up to 6 months at room temperature, or 1 year when stored in the fridge. The texture of your body butter will change depending on your climate. For example, warmer temperatures can cause the body butter to liquefy, while colder climates cause it to solidify.

This remedy is safe for the entire family and doubles as a great baby lotion, heel balm, lip balm, or diaper rash cream. Pregnant and nursing mothers will especially love Hibiscus and Rose Collagen Body Butter because it can improve the skin’s elasticity. If you have acne-prone or oily skin, use this remedy sparingly on the face.

Your Skin Reflects What’s Happening Inside Your Body

Store-bought creams treat surface symptoms. But if your skin is breaking out, aging faster than it should, or flaring up with eczema—the real problem is internal.

The Holistic Guide to Wellness contains complete protocols that address skin health from the inside out:

Acne Protocol – Not just face washes—foods, gut health, hormonal balance, stress management
Anti-Aging Protocol – Collagen-boosting foods, detox practices, supplements, lifestyle changes
Psoriasis and Eczema Protocol – Gut healing, inflammation reduction, trigger identification

Each protocol maps out exactly what to do morning, noon, and evening—every day of the week—so you never guess what to do next.

Skin problems don’t exist in isolation. They’re signals that something deeper needs attention.
