The Trump administration began a significant push to expand its immigration enforcement workforce in 2025. ICE held large recruitment events in Texas as part of a national effort to add thousands of agents.
As of September 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) have conducted multiple recent operations resulting in hundreds of arrests, with an increased focus on immigration enforcement. This increase is due to a shift in federal immigration policy and ongoing state initiatives.
In August 2025, ICE concluded a week-long operation in southeast Texas that resulted in 822 arrests of undocumented immigrants. The agency reported that those arrested included gang members, child predators, and individuals with prior homicide convictions.
News reports from January and May 2025 confirm smaller, targeted ICE enforcement actions in Texas, with some conducted in conjunction with Texas DPS. One raid in late January 2025 netted nearly 90 arrests in the Colony Ridge area, and a May 2025 incident in San Antonio involved the arrest of three migrants.
