Armed Attacks in Celaya Leave Two Dead and Two Injured in Santa Rita and Villas del Bajío Neighborhoods

The attacks left two people dead and two others injured in incidents that occurred just minutes apart in different neighborhoods of the city.

Two armed attacks recorded overnight in the municipality of Celaya resulted in two fatalities and two injuries.

The first incident was reported minutes before 10:00 p.m. on Durango Street, in the Santa Rita neighborhood. According to preliminary reports, armed individuals arrived at the scene and fired repeatedly at the occupants of a Dodge Neon parked in front of a residence where a *novenario* (nine-day prayer vigil) was taking place.

Following the assault, a man was found dead in the driver’s seat, while two young people—both approximately 20 years old—sustained serious injuries. Neighbors in the area alerted emergency services; paramedics subsequently arrived at the scene to provide first aid and urgently transport the victims to a hospital.

Public security officers cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene while the State Attorney General’s Office was notified. Forensic experts processed the scene, recovering various spent shell casings that will be incorporated into the case file. Additionally, a search operation was launched in the surrounding area, though the perpetrators managed to flee the scene. Minutes later, around 10:30 p.m., a second armed attack was reported on Villas de Kloss Street, in the Villas del Bajío 2 neighborhood. At this location, a man was killed inside a building that operated as a food establishment.

According to preliminary reports, the victim reportedly attempted to take shelter inside the premises upon noticing the presence of armed individuals; however, the assailants entered the building and discharged their weapons multiple times, killing him at the scene.

The body was found bearing multiple gunshot wounds and was subsequently transported to the Forensic Medical Service, where it currently remains unidentified. Authorities have initiated the corresponding investigations to shed light on this second incident, which also prompted the mobilization of security forces in the area.

As of now, no arrests have been reported in connection with either of the attacks, while authorities continue their inquiries in an effort to apprehend those responsible.
