Mamdani’s Anti-ICE Protesters Block NYC Hospital, ICE Removes Discharged Illegal From Hospital ER (Video)

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Chidozie Wilson Okeke, a Nigerian national who had overstayed his visa. Because he requested medical attention, agents transported him to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center for an evaluation. Word of the arrest spread rapidly on social media via local immigration watchdog groups. This mobilized an estimated 200 to 300 protesters outside the hospital’s emergency room entrance to try to block federal agents from leaving with the detainee.
The protest became chaotic as demonstrators blocked ambulance bays, threw trash, and damaged an ICE vehicle. The NYPD was called to the scene to handle the crowd. A physical brawl broke out, leading to the arrest of at least eight or nine protesters for reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
Late at night, ICE agents dragged the hospital discharged single detainee to an ICE SUV waiting in the ambulance bay, using pepper spray to disperse the remaining anti-ICE protesters blocking their path, and left the scene. No staff, patients, or other individuals from the hospital were detained or deported.
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani strongly condemned ICE’s actions, calling the agency “cruel and inhumane”. He reiterated that city property is protected under executive mandates preventing federal immigration overreach. Left-wing local politicians accused the NYPD of illegally coordinating with federal agents to help them escape the crowd. Mayor Mamdani and the NYPD vehemently denied these claims, clarifying that police officers only responded to 911 emergency calls regarding the protest and did not participate in immigration enforcement.
