Mute Institutions - Christians Raising Questions

In the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, rising attacks on Christians — from violent assaults during worship to systemic neglect of justice — have raised grave concerns about the safety, dignity, and rights of the Christian minority. Amid silence from institutions and leaders, Christian communities are now asking: how long must we suffer in a secular nation built on constitutional promises? A deep-rooted proverb says, “Those who stay silent find no support.” This seems to resonate strongly with the Christian institutions and leaders in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, who have remained passive despite increasing violence against the community. Dr. L K Mrityunjaya, Christian Scholar and Public Intellectual, strongly criticizes the inaction, stating that “we have a form, but no fire.”

• A nation of rights, but not for all?

A growing wave of attacks — knife assaults at gospel meetings, invasions of churches, and threats to preachers — has left the Christian community reeling. In the latest incidents, a young woman, a pastor’s son, and a believer were injured in Velidandla village, Suryapet district, Telangana, when a man stormed the stage with a knife during a gospel event. On the last Sunday, Christians praying in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh were assaulted by religious extremists.

These acts of violence are not isolated. They are part of a dangerous pattern, one that has exposed the inertia of the institutions..

• Where are the guardians of justice?

The pressing questions raised by the average Christians, says Mrityunjaya are difficult to ignore:

• Has any Chief Minister ordered a serious probe into an attack on a pastor?
• Have the courts ever taken suo motu cognizance of such incidents?
• Has a DGP even issued a formal warning to deter such attacks?
• Have public representatives demanded judicial inquiries or offered real solidarity?
• Has any national media house broadcast these injustices or exposed the criminals behind them?

Despite constitutional guarantees, Christians feel betrayed by every pillar of democracy. They question how the very institutions meant to uphold their rights have become complicit through silence.

• A silent society, a suffering faith

The social boycott, demolition of churches, denial of basic rights, and refusal to register cases or investigate have become routine. Victims often go unheard, and perpetrators roam free, emboldened by the absence of justice.

Even when FIRs are filed, there is no fast-track trial, no deterrent punishment, and often, no media attention. The lack of accountability emboldens religious fanatics, pushing a community that prays for peace into a state of fear and helplessness.

• A community torn, but not broken

The article calls for unity:

“It is time for every Christian to put aside differences and mobilize for justice,” writes Mrityunjaya.

He urges Christian organizations and individuals to shed internal divisions, come together across denominations, and legally fight for protection, rights, and representation. He argues that unless there is coordinated and strategic action, the very presence of Christianity in Telugu states may be at stake.

• A call to wake up the sleeping systems

The failure of institutions — to act decisively is termed as “unconstitutional” by Mrityunjaya. He calls this a betrayal of India’s secular foundations.

He questions whether those in power — who swore to uphold the Constitution — have forgotten their duty. He challenges them to act before the faith and lives of millions are irreparably damaged.

• The final word: Fight with knowledge, not fear

In conclusion, Mrityunjaya makes a powerful appeal:

“The Christian community must rise — not with vengeance, but with knowledge, unity, and legal force — to crush the unconstitutional hatred threatening its existence.”

As violence mounts and silence deepens, the Christian minority in Telugu states is not asking for favours — it is demanding constitutional protection, equal dignity, and the right to live in peace.

వ్యవస్థల మౌనం – ప్రశ్నిస్తున్న క్రైస్తవ సమాజం 

ఊరికే కూర్చునేవాడికి వురిమినా వుత్తేజం రాదు అనేది తెలుగు సామెత. తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో క్రైస్తవులపై దాడులు జరుగుతున్నా ఏమీ తెలియనట్లున్న వ్యవస్థలకు ఈ సామెత వర్తిస్తుందేమో! క్రైస్తవులపై ముష్కరులు దాడులు చేస్తున్నా మౌనంగా చోద్యం చూస్తున్న క్రైస్తవ సమాజానికి కూడా ఇది వర్తిస్తుంది. ఎందుకంటే వారికి ఆకారమే కానీ శ్రీకారం లేదనే అపవాదుందని క్రిస్టియన్ స్కాలర్, పబ్లిక్ ఇంటలెక్చుయల్ డాక్టర్ ఎల్ కే మృత్యుంజయ, ఈ వ్యాసంలో ఉటంకిస్తున్నారు, నిశ్శబ్ధంలో కూరుకుపోయిన సగటు క్రైస్తవుల ప్రశ్నలకు దీటైన, ఘాటైన అక్షర రూపాన్నిస్తున్నారు. భవిష్యత్తు కార్యాచరణకు క్రైస్తవ సమాజాన్ని జాగృతపరిచే మేలిమి బాటలు పరుస్తున్నారు. 

• తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో  క్రైస్తవులపై నిరంతరంగా జరుగుతున్న దాడులు, హత్యాప్రయత్నాలు, కూల్చివేతలు, హక్కుల ఉల్లంఘనలు, రాజ్యాంగ అతీత శక్తులు కనబడవా? వినబడవా?
• ఈ దుర్మార్గాలు, దారుణాలు వ్యవస్థలకు మాయని మచ్చలు కాదా? క్రైస్తవుల జీవితాలు, వారి ప్రాణాలు పట్టవా?
• అధికార యంత్రాంగం ఆఘమేఘాల మీద కదలాలంటే పాస్టర్ బదులు, పూజారి అవ్వాలా?
• ఏ రోజైనా ఒక క్రైస్తవునిపై దాడిని ఏ కోర్టైనా సుమోటో గా స్వీకరించిందా?
• ఏ ముఖ్యమంత్రైనా ఒక పాస్టర్ పై హత్యాయత్నాన్ని సీరియస్ గా తీసుకుని, విచారణ చేసి శిక్షించమని ఆదేశించారా?
• ఏ డీజీపీ యైనా, మత దాడులను మేము ఉపేక్షించబోమని ఒక సాధారణ హెచ్చరికైనా చేసారా?
• ఇక ప్రజా నాయకులు  వారి కళ్ళముందు జరుగుతున్న ఈ నిత్య వివక్షను  ఖండిస్తూ, న్యాయవిచారణకు పట్టుబట్టారా?
• ఏనాడైనా ఏ జాతీయ మీడియాయైనా క్రైస్తవులపై రోజూ ఏదో మూల జరుగుతున్న ప్రాణాంతక దాడుల గురించి ప్రసారం చేసిందా, మతోగ్రవాదుల్ని ఖండించిందా, వారి నేర వివరాలను ప్రజల ముందు పెట్టిందా, వారిని సమాజం ముందు నిలబెట్టిందా?
• సీమాంతర ఉగ్రవాదం గురించి ప్రసంగాలు దంచేవారికి మతోన్మాదుల దుశ్చర్యలు కనపడవా?
• రాజ్యాంగం మీద ప్రమాణం చేసి, దేశ అత్యున్నత రాజ్యాంగ విలువలు, పౌర హక్కులు కాపాడతామని ప్రమాణం చేసినవారు ఏమయ్యారు?
• కేసులు నమోదు చేసేందుకు సుముఖంగా ఉండరు. తీరా కేసు నమోదైనా, శీఘ్ర దర్యాప్తు ఉండదు. ఆలాంటివారికి శిక్ష పడిన దాఖలాలే కనబడవు.
• ఇంత దారుణమా? క్రైస్తవ మైనారిటీ బ్రతుకులు ఈ ప్రపంచ అతిపెద్ద ప్రజాస్వామ్యంలో, లౌకిక రాజ్యాంగ నీడలో తెల్లారిపోవలసిందేనా?
• ఈ హంతకులను అదుపు చేసేందుకు ఉన్న చట్టాలు చాలవా? అధికారాలు సరిపోవా? 
• ఇంకెంత కాలం ఈ వివక్ష? ఇంకెంత కాలం  క్రైస్తవులను మనుష్యుల్లా చూడరు?
• శాంతి కాముకులైన క్రైస్తవులకు,  దేశక్షేమం  కోసం ప్రార్థనలు చేస్తున్న క్రైస్తవులకు,  దేశంలో మూడో స్థానంలో వున్న క్రైస్తవులకు భద్రత, జీవించే హక్కు ఇవ్వలేని వ్యవస్థలు ఎందుకు?  

తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో తరచుగా జరుగుతున్న  దుర్ఘటనల సందర్బంగా సాధారణ క్రైస్తవులు లేవనెత్తుతున్న  ప్రశ్నలు ఇవి. 

తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్రం, సూర్యాపేట జిల్లా, గారిడే పల్లి మండలం, వెలిదండ్ల గ్రామంలో సువార్త సభ జరుగుతుండగా ఒక వ్యక్తి కత్తి తీసుకొని స్టేజ్ మీదకు వెళ్ళి పాట పాడుతున్న  యువతిపై, పాస్టర్ కుమారుడి పై, విశ్వాసి పై దాడికి తెగబడ్డాడు. గత ఆదివారం ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ లోని కాకినాడలో మతోన్మాదులు చర్చిలో ఆరాధన చేసుకుంటున్న క్రైస్తవులపై దాడికి తెగబడ్డారు. ఈ విపత్కర పరిస్థితులను ఎవరు అదుపు చేస్తారని క్రైస్తవులు ప్రశ్నిస్తున్నారు. 

ఏ ప్రజా ప్రభుత్వాలైనా పౌర సంరక్షణకు తగిన చర్యలు తీసుకుంటాయి, అత్యంత ప్రాధాన్యత నిస్తాయి. కానీ ఇది అమలు కావటం లేదనే నిష్టుర సత్యాన్ని దేశవ్యాప్తంగా క్రైస్తవులపై దాడులు, హత్యా ప్రయత్నాలు చాటుతున్నాయి. ప్రధానంగా రెండు తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో ఈ దురదృష్టకర పరిస్థితులు దాపురించాయి. క్రైస్తవులపై జరుగుతున్న దాడులను నిలువరించటంలో  ప్రభుత్వానికి, అధికారులకు, మీడియాకు, రాజ్యాంగ వ్యవస్థలకు చిత్తశుద్ధి, పారదర్శకత లేవనే వాస్తవాలను కళ్ళకు కడుతున్నాయి. దానికి ఇటీవల రెండు తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో జరిగిన తాజా దుర్ఘటనలే ప్రత్యక్షసాక్ష్యాలుగా దర్శనమిస్తున్నాయి. 

తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో క్రైస్తవుల భద్రత పునరుద్దరణకు ప్రభుత్వం సత్వరం పూనుకోవాలని క్రైస్తవ సమాజం ఎప్పటినుండో అప్రమత్తం చేస్తుంది. ఈ దుష్ట పరిస్థితులకు కారణం దాడులు చేసినవారిపై కేసులు పెట్టినా  శిక్షలు పడకపోవటం వరంగా పరిణమించిందనే ఆరోపణ బలంగా వినిపిస్తుంది. ఫలితంగా మతోన్మాదుల నిర్భీతికి అంతులేకుండా పోయింది. వారి పాపం క్రైస్తవ సమాజానికి పెనుశాపంగా మారింది. 

ప్రతి క్రైస్తవుడు విబేధాలకు స్వస్తి పలికి క్రైస్తవుల పరిరక్షణకు యుద్ధ ప్రాతిపదికన నడుం కట్టాల్సిన తరుణమిది. చేష్టలుడిగి చోద్యం చూస్తున్న వ్యవస్థలను మేల్కొల్పాల్సిన సమయమిది. 

దుష్ట తంత్రాల వల్ల క్రైస్తవ సమాజానికి భయంకర ఉపద్రవం ముంచుకొచ్చిన మాట వాస్తవం. దీన్ని తుత్తునియలు చేయాలంటే శాఖల విబేధాలను పక్కనబెట్టటం, అంతులేని నిర్లక్ష్యానికి చరమగీతం పాడటం ప్రతి క్రైస్తవుని తక్షణ కర్తవ్యం. ప్రత్యేక కార్యాచరణతో, ప్రణాళికతో ముందుకెళ్ళకుంటే క్రైస్తవ ఉనికి తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో కనుమరుగవటం ఖాయం. 

అంతులేని విద్వేషంతో దాడులకు తెగబడుతున్న ఘరానా మతోన్మాదులను నిర్దాక్షిణ్యంగ కటకటాలపాలుజేయాలంటే జడత్వంలో కూరుకుపోయిన క్రైస్తవ సమాజం స్వీయ శ్రేయస్సు కోసం ఉద్యమించాలి.  భవిష్యత్తు భద్రత కోసం బయటికి రావాలి. చట్టబద్ధంగా ప్రత్యక్ష హక్కుల పోరాటం చేయాలి. క్రైస్తవ్యాన్ని నిర్ములించాలనే రాజ్యాంగ వ్యతిరేఖ దుర్నీతిని సమస్త విధములైన జ్ఞానము చేత పాతాళానికి కసిగా తొక్కెయ్యాలి. ఏక మనస్సుతో క్రైస్తవ ఐక్యతకు పాటుపడాలి.
