Caste-based Attack Sparks Outrage In Nellore’s Tellagunta Village

Andhra Pradesh: Dr. Dasari Chennakeshavulu, State President of the Republican Party of India (RPI), has alleged that a caste-based mob attack took place in Tellagunta village, Bogolu mandal, of Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district, following an inter-caste marriage between a Yadava girl and a Mala youth. He visited the affected area and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.

Inter-caste marriage triggers tensions

According to Dr. Chennakeshavulu, the incident began after a girl from the Yadava community and a Mala youth, both majors, got married on July 30 at Bitragunta Venkateswara Swamy temple. Police were informed on July 31 and counselled the parents, who were told that the couple had a legal right to marry.

Complaint followed by alleged retaliation

Despite police intervention, the girl’s parents reportedly filed a kidnapping complaint at Bitragunta police station the same evening. Dr. Chennakeshavulu claimed that on August 2, around 40 to 50 individuals from the Yadava community, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked the Mala colony.

Allegations of violence and abuse

The attackers reportedly vandalized homes, broke TVs, and dragged women outside, threatening them with caste-based slurs and violence. Women were allegedly beaten with sticks and rods while the men were away at work.

Delayed response and lack of FIR

Dr. Chennakeshavulu said that police arrived only the following day, and as of August 5, no FIR had been registered against the accused. He criticized the silence of the local MLA and questioned if political affiliations were influencing the inaction.

RPI promises support to victims

Visiting the village on August 5, Dr. Chennakeshavulu assured the victims that the RPI would stand by them and demand justice. He was accompanied by Tullibilli Ashok Babu, President of the State Mala Employees Welfare Association.
