Covid Workers Appeal To MLA, Seek Fair Pay And Dues
Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: 95 Covid workers of Proddatur Municipality, who have been serving for the past six years, submitted a petition to MLA Nandyal Varadaraju Reddy on Monday, demanding fair wages in line with present costs of living and clearance of pending dues.

Demand for wage revision
The workers said they were recruited during the Covid-19 crisis on a daily wage of Rs 400, but despite inflation and the revised rate of Rs 570, the municipal commissioner has failed to implement the increase.

Lack of basic supplies
The petition noted that for over a year, workers have not received basic items such as soaps, coconut oil, uniforms, and essential tools for their duties. Three workers who previously served in the market section are still awaiting their salaries, the union said.

Union leaders spearhead protest
The representation was made under the banner of the Covid Workers’ Union, led by Honarary President Salmon, President Raju, General Secretary Meri Babu, Rajkumar, and Committee Members Prasanna, David, Shiva, Praveenu, Jai Simha, Sikamani, Narasimhu, and Prabhudas.
