Hikers found a dead man’s body near a Branson bluff over the weekend, the Branson Police Department says.

In a Monday evening news release, Branson police said hikers near a downtown highway overpass reported possible human remains Sunday morning.

Officers searched the area near where West Main Street crosses U.S. 65 and found a body, according to Assistant Police Chief Eric Schmitt.

“Our police officers did confirm remains of a human body, but also noted it had been there quite some time,” Schmitt said.

Branson detectives did not find any signs of foul play, the release said.

“Regardless, we will work this investigation as a suspicious death pending results of an autopsy by the Taney County Coroner,” Schmitt added.

Fire Chief Ted Martin said the dead person was a man. The identity of the remains has not yet been determined and as such, the dead person’s family has not been notified.
