PMOI Network in Iran Papers Country to Campaign for Boycott

Throughout Iran, there is a network of members of the PMOI/MEK network that have actively been distributing information to encourage a campaign of boycotting the election. In addition, they have papered the cities with statements encouraging Iranians to vote for “overthrow of the regime”. Others have the slogan, “My vote: Maryam Rajavi”. L

All of these slogans are clearly part of an effort to remind the Iranian people that there is another option to living with the oppressive regime and its choice of murderers for presidential candidates. The PMOM/MEK are the largest opposition group to the regime, and are part of a larger coalition known as the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The coalition has been based in Paris and continues a variety of activities with a view to exposing the activities of the regime to the Iranian people and the international community.

Many of their efforts have included the transmission of information on Iran’s nuclear activities to the various world powers, supporting sanctions meant to bring the regime to the negotiation table and weaken the regime, and the exposure of Iran’s efforts to destabilize the region with their military efforts.

Iran has been labeled as an exporter of terrorism and fundamentalism, which have set the regime in direct opposition to most of the international community. The NCRI’s efforts through its network in Iran have also exposed the corruption of the regime and their impact on the Iranian people.

Efforts have also been made to expose the human rights violations, through publicizing of the stories of those in prison, those who have been executed, and those who have been tortured and sentenced without a fair trial.

There is great risk to their activities. Those who are found out by the regime are risking severe punishment for “sedition” and for violating “national security”, thus making them a threat to the regime. Yet in spite of the risk, these individuals are creating posters, fliers and banners, then getting them hung so that others can see them before they are found and destroyed by security forces.

The regime is focused on avoiding the uprising of the 2009 elections and are determined to keep the Iranian people cowed so that they don’t question the ruling mullahs. But the Iranian people are waking up and the PMOI/MEK, among other groups, have the smelling salts to help them face the reality of what the regime is doing to the country and Iranian society as a whole.
