The perception of Fort Bragg as “secretive” stems from its role as the headquarters for the U.S. military’s elite special operations units, like the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), which includes Delta Force. Recent reports have focused on alleged internal criminal activity, such as drug and weapons trafficking, by some special forces members, and the base’s history of being a hub for covert operations. The base is officially named Fort Liberty but is more commonly known as Fort Bragg, although this has changed a couple of times.
Investigative reports have alleged that drug and weapons trafficking rings have operated from within elite units at the base, a claim supported by the discovery of murdered soldiers linked to these activities.
